The humble chain is left on the sidelines no more. The latest jewellery collection from Hermès shines a spotlight on the link and its classic form. Sans flashy charms and bejewelled pendants, the Chaîne d’ancre collection quite literally draws from its inspiration (Chaîne d’ancre translates to anchor chain in French) and turns the simple link on its head, transforming it into a motif of its own.
In white or rose gold, chains and clasps from Hermès are proudly worn front and centre. Each link and nautical chain is lengthened, rounded and interlaced to form webs of ornate bijoux. Dreamed up by Hermès’s Creative Director of Jewellery Pierre Hardy, minimal chains are emboldened with a statement centre stone while the understated form of the link is manipulated into an alluring double ring. On the initial inspiration for the new range, Hardy expounds, “Accumulating, merging and fluidifying, I explored several territories starting with the archetypal form.”
With its time in the sun, the industrial symbol, pavé-set with diamonds, has been reimagined as a versatile emblem for the modern sophisticate. Blue sapphires and black spinels embellish rows upon rows of humble links in the Chaîne d’ancre collection. Stacks of twisted rope, links and buckle make their way onto the collection’s silver minaudière, for a statement accessory like no other.
Now, you can see the pieces from the Chaîne d’ancre line for yourself. Hermès is opening up a new exhibition for the collection at the Liat Towers store on Orchard Road from 27 February – 3 March 2024. Call +65 6933 3222 to make an appointment.
