In its most recent collaboration, French leather goods company Longchamp teamed up with the mischievous art publication Toiletpaper founded by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari to merge fashion and art, resulting in the mesmerizing collection. Longchamp x Toiletpaper promises to captivate and make you do a double take.
Building upon Longchamp’s rich heritage of collaborations, Toiletpaper has breathed new life into the iconic Le Pliage bag with five exuberant and playful images. Drawing inspiration from authentic Gallic icons such as the baguette and the French bulldog, as well as incorporating Longchamp motifs like the sprinting horse logo and leather pipe, the creative duo has adorned the foldable bag with original designs.
“We try to invent, to make life not boring,” explained Toiletpaper co-founder Maurizio Cattelan.
“For this collaboration with Longchamp, we wanted to play with the codes of French icons and of the Maison so that they became alive again. Each image can be seen from multiple different points of view—there isn’t just one message,” added Pierpaolo Ferrari, Cattelan’s co-founder of Toiletpaper.
The capsule collection encompasses five original designs, presented in a lively colour palette of candy-pink, sky-blue, and sunshine-yellow. The playful images grace the recycled polyester canvas Le Pliage travel bag, handbag, tote bag, and pouch, while a series of cowhide leather keychains further complements the collection. Adding a distinctive touch, a TOILETCHAMPLONGPAPER branded silk ribbon completes this entrancing collaboration.

“We were really enthused by Toiletpaper’s unique way of combining art, fashion, and pop-culture references with a dose of humour,” said Sophie Delafontaine, Longchamp’s long-time creative director. “We felt their bold aesthetic and lighthearted approach to life tallied with Longchamp’s colorful vision of optimistic luxury.”
The vibrant and hyperreal images featured in the Longchamp x Toiletpaper campaign were meticulously composed over a few days in the Toiletpaper studio in Milan in March 2023. Notably, during the shoot, Delafontaine received her grandfather’s leather-wrapped pipes, borrowed from the Longchamp archive, covered in bite marks. “The dog was smoking. Now, they are works of art,” said Cattelan, eliciting a laughter from Delafontaine.
