As Blackpink reaches its seventh year in the industry, Blinks—the official moniker for Blackpink’s fanbase—are going through it. Comprising Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, Blackpink has been internationally prominent following double acts at Coachella, a stellar and extensive world tour, and the numerous ambassadorships each member has clinched. Yet, as August 2023 marks the girls’s contract expiration dates, the future of Blackpink stands on the will-they-won’t-they of contract renewals.

While rumours that member Jennie would be exiting the group first arose, Thai native Lisa is now the topic of buzzy speculations, with reports of a “high chance” of the starlet leaving her agency, YG Entertainment.
South Korean title Munhwa Ilbo has reported that while other members Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé have “smoothly” discussed contract renewal discussions, YG and Lisa “have not reached an agreement”.
The rumours were exacerbated as an anonymous Chinese agency highlighted a difficulty in booking Lisa for an August programme, which was justified given the “uncertainty of Lisa’s contract renewal with YG Entertainment”.
“It has nothing to do with contract renewals which are currently under discussion.”, said YG in a statement, citing Blackpink’s ongoing Born Pink world tour and the 26-year-old’s individual activities as reasons for her unavailability. Blinks can rest easy for now, but we’ll be on the lookout for more news on Blackpink’s future as a quartet.
