The ready-to-wear pieces floating down the runway aren’t our only hyper-fixation this fashion month. Fashion shows not only dictate our sartorial choices, they also influence beauty trends for the current and upcoming seasons.
Some of the biggest beauty trends made their debut on the runway before taking off on social media. Take Pat McGrath’s porcelain doll look for Maison Margiela’s Haute Couture show as an example. Before you knew it, everyone on the internet scrambled to unveil McGrath’s beauty secrets and attempted to recreate the look.
In the same fashion, social media trends have also found their way on the runway. We’ve witnessed an abundance of ethereal bows, lace ensembles and delicate pink hues gracing the collections of Prada, Simone Rocha and Sandy Liang. It is no secret that this flirtatious runway trend was influenced by Tiktok’s coquette aesthetic.
While some makeup artists reminisced on nostalgic favourites, others ventured into new subversive looks. From bleached eyebrows to vibrant eyeshadow and luminous glass skin, here are all the biggest beauty moments we’ve gleaned from the Fall/Winter 2024 runways.
Bleached Brows
Say goodbye to thick and defined eyebrows because the bleached brow renaissance is upon us. As seen on A-listers such as Kendall Jenner, Doja Cat and Gigi Hadid and on the runways of Coperni, Schiaparelli, and Marine Serre, the bleached brows are here to stay for good. If you’re looking to switch up your look for the summer, bleaching your brows could be an excellent starting point.
Vibrant Eyeshadow
Vibrant eyeshadow is set to dominate this summer’s trends. Pink emerged as a standout colour on the runway, with Chanel and Dior opting for coral and fuschia eyeshadow shades respectively. Beyond the pop of colour, what’s truly fascinating is the skillful application of the vibrant pigment to accentuate the inner corners of the eyes. Could vibrant eyeshadow spring up as the next highlighter trend?
Dramatic Eyeliner
One way to make an impactful fashion statement is through the use of bold, exaggerated wink eyeliner. Amy Winehouse’s iconic eyeliner, which has become a hallmark of her unforgettable style, is certainly a testament to that. Models strutted down the runways of Versace and Jason Wu, sporting bold sweeps of jet-black eyeliner complemented with nude lips. The key is to keep the rest of the makeup minimal so that the eyes take centre stage, commanding all attention in the room.
Under Eye Blush
Blush placement can be tricky. Other than the apples of your cheeks, blush can work wonders when applied under the eyes to camouflage dark circles, resulting in a more radiant and youthful complexion. This technique has been embraced by numerous K-pop celebrities including IVE, Le Sserafim and Aespa and has also extended to the runway with Casablanca spearheading the trend.
Glass Skin
Korean beauty appears to be making waves on the runway. Achieving skin that is crystal clear, impossibly lustrous and flawlessly poreless, resembling glass– sounds like an unattainable beauty standard, if we’re being honest. But Caroline Hu and Ludovic De Saint Sernin accomplished the seemingly impossible feat of showcasing models that were glowing from within. According to experts, the formula for glass skin is to double cleanse, exfoliate and layer multiple layers of hydrating products. Hopefully, the makeup artists behind these shows will let us in on their prized glass-skin secrets.
