Rolex is inviting Singapore to take flight—metaphorically, at least.

The Swiss luxury watchmaker, in partnership with Cortina Watch, presents an exclusive exhibition tracing the extraordinary journey of one of horology’s most recognisable timepieces—the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master.

Originally born in 1955 to meet the needs of pilots navigating a rapidly shrinking world, the GMT-Master became the wrist-borne emblem of the jet age. With its distinctive two-tone bezel and revolutionary dual time-zone display, it was a precision tool for professionals—and soon, a style statement for those who embodied the spirit of travel.

The exhibition, titled “Time Zone to Time Zone,” unfolds through a series of immersive thematic panels and a short documentary film that together chronicle the evolution of this horological icon.

Visitors will encounter milestone moments that defined the GMT-Master’s legacy: the transition from Plexiglas to aluminium and eventually to Cerachrom ceramic bezels, the introduction of the independently adjustable hour hand in 1982, and the return of the Jubilee bracelet in 2018. The exhibition also highlights the technical brilliance of the current Calibre 3285 movement, a testament to Rolex’s relentless pursuit of precision and performance.

Beyond its mechanical mastery, the GMT-Master’s enduring appeal lies in its symbolism. The two-tone bezel—once a pilot’s essential reference—now serves as a reminder of the ties that unite travellers around the globe. From its cockpit origins to its place on the wrists of explorers, artists, and global adventurers, the GMT-Master’s story is one of movement, innovation, and timeless connection.
