My Best Friend’s Wedding. Notting Hill. Pretty Woman. Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts’ infectious smile can light up a cinema like no other.
In line with International Day Of Happiness on March 20, acclaimed film director James Gray has captured the playfulness, vivaciousness, and joie de vivre that make Roberts the icon she is – and has edited these moments into a new 12-part video series for luxury jewellery house Chopard.
The campaign, titled Chopard Loves Cinema, consists of 12 “episodes” with the first one being released on March 20. It shows Roberts – Chopard’s longtime ambassador – in non-movie star mode; joking around off camera, knitting on set, slipping into her trainers under her glamorous gowns. Adorned in Chopard jewellery and beaming with happiness, you can’t take your eyes off Roberts.
“We are revealing a new facet of our identity, the Feel-Good vibe: the self-confidence instilled by Chopard jewellery or watches, reverberating in the air and infusing the entire surrounding universe with positive energy,” explains Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele.
Chopard has had a long relationship with the cinema, namely its 26-year partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. Together, the Swiss jewellery house and the festival have written some of the most beautiful moments in red carpet history – several of which have included Roberts.
“The first time I was [at the Cannes Film Festival], I was running late and racing down the [hotel] hallway,” Roberts recalls of the 2016 moment along La Croisette. “Somebody was still sewing me into my dress, so we were all running down the hallway to the elevator and somebody was sewing away. And I just thought ‘It’s so classic’. It was a “Cannes”-Do moment.”
See a teaser for the film series below – and check back in on Monday March 20 for the first episode of Chopard Loves Cinema, and the mesmerising presence that is Julia Roberts. No matter how your day is going, she will be sure to bring a smile to your face.
