On a bright, sunny day in New York, iconic New York brand Kate Spade New York showcased its vibrant spring/summer 2024 collection at the Chelsea Passage on The High Line to fashion press, influencers and celebrities. Editor-in-Chief Pakkee Tan reports from the front row at New York Fashion Week.
It was inspired by the excitement and hope of spring
The collection “began with the idea of the first glimpse of spring in Manhattan … when, early in the season, New Yorkers are greeted by an unexpected, beautiful day and the city suddenly comes to life. There is a certain feeling that moment brings—it sparks release, excitement and hope for what’s to come,” the show notes explained.
The collection brought sporty, varsity-inspired looks together with fresh, feminine style
Designed by Tom Mora, SVP and head of design, RTW & lifestyle categories, and Jennifer Lyu, SVP and head of design, leather goods and accessories, the collection was an ode to the brand’s DNA. Think: easy, breezy dressed drenched in sequins, cropped jackets given a twist with pearl embellishments, bold colours (the signature Kate Spade green is back!) and graphic prints.
The accessories were oh-so-covetable
Who doesn’t love a fun, whimsical bag (or two) to add your wardrobe at the start of every season? There was definitely plenty of arm candy that was on display for spring/summer 2024—from new colourways for Kate Spade’s icons (including the new Dakota, that we saw in a lovely pastel blue shade with a mock croc effect); to new offerings such as the gorgeous floral-inspired bags that would be perfect for a sunny spring day.
The key colour for SS24 was neon yellow
Remember when Gen Z yellow was still a thing? Kate Spade kicked things up a notch and amped up the colour dial for an eye-catching neon yellow hue that appeared on everything from blazers to handbags. “This collection is a celebration of that moment, when you abandon your winter wardrobe and refuse to go back. It’s full of vibrant spring colors, fresh takes on heritage patterns, and unusual textures that drive excitement,” Mora and Lyu said.
It was a star-studded turn out
Molly Gordon, Christina Ricci and Stephanie Hsu (above) were among the starry host who showed up to celebrate the brand’s SS24 presentation on The High Line. Other celebrities included musician Justine Skye, model Aoki Lee Simmons, XO, Kitty star Anna Cathcart, actress Sofia Wylie. We even spotted Whitney Port! Guests were served cold lemonade and iced tea, along with mini donuts at the event while they mingled.
