Kate Spade has undeniably earned its spot in the hall of fame as a game changers in American fashion. The Kate Spade’s eponymous label has long been known in the fashion scene for their timeless and whimsical designs, and it wasn’t a rare sight to see a Kate Spade in the arms of top models and It-girls like Cindy Crawford, Winona Ryder, Millie Bobbie Brown and Maisie Williams. Considered to be a milestone in every fashion girl’s rite of passage, the New York based brand has never failed to inject just the right amount of whimsy in the repetitive mundanes of everyday dressing. Since the brand’s rise to fame in the ’90s, the quirky prints and unerring eye for accessories has been their pièce de résistance for the modern woman, unsurprisingly so.

As Kate Spade celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the brand brings forth a new icon to be remembered for the times: the Dakota. Inspired by New York City and all it has to offer, skyscrapers and all—the Dakota is a meeting of NYC modernity and classic design codes, expressed in a versatile handbag fit for any occasion.

“The Dakota handbag represents Kate Spade New York’s commitment to delivering products that exude timelessness yet fit in with the eclectic lifestyle of today’s woman. Our customer is a constant source of inspiration for us. She is a go-getter, who balances her appetite for new experiences with the regimen of life’s responsibilities,” said Jennifer Lyu, Kate Spade SVP and Head of Design of Leather Goods and Accessories.

Coming in a sophisticated range of colours from chartreuse, rock garden, black and cream—the Dakota is the Kate Spade woman in her full form. Making a case for understated glamour this Fall/Winter season, the Dakota is anything but ordinary despite its seemingly simple design. A closer look at the clasp reveals a stacked meeting of geometric lines and curves, an ode to the Big Apple’s meeting of architectural silhouettes.

Along with the unveiling of the Dakota, Kate Spade will also be introducing a first-ever roving bus pop-up to Singapore, which will make its way throughout our island from 31 August to 16 September.

Staying true to the whimsical nature of Kate Spade, the exterior of the bus has been playfully covered with the iconic black and cream stripes and polka dots, along with a splash of Kate Spade green—a colour coined by Pantone earlier this year to celebrate the brand’s heritage and optimism in the past 30 years. In the pop-up, visitors can expect a full suite of activities starting out with a mini museum of the full Dakota range and an interactive AI art suite to get those creative juices flowing. Continuing the Kate Spade journey outside the bus, the brand has also teamed up with Matchaya to craft specialty drinks in reference to the brands design codes, which can be claimed upon completion of a digital ‘Bag it’ maze game, and by following the brand’s Instagram page. The best part? The top scorer of the Kate Spade maze game stands to win a handbag once the roving bus makes its rounds across the city.
