Tea takes on its most elevated form this fall, thanks to TWG Tea’s Grand Earl Grey. The newest addition to the luxury label’s Haute Couture Tea collection, it redefines what this classic blend tastes—and looks—like. Contrary to popular belief, Earl Grey is not tied to a single tea varietal or region—its essence lies in the bright lift of citrus.

The tea masters at TWG Tea know their craft. With 17 blends in its repertoire, the Singaporean brand holds the world’s largest suite of Earl Grey teas. In its latest short film, the brand spotlights the heart of the collection: bergamot oil from southern Italy. Harvested, cold-pressed, and clarified, the prized oil reaches its purest expression before being transformed in the hands of the brand’s innovators, who wield it with restraint—striking a balance of depth, nuance, and sparkle.

The purified oil is then added to whole tea leaves of the highest quality. Each blend is composed with precision and harmony to draw out a distinctive flavour profile. The result? Pure aromatic alchemy.

That philosophy extends to TWG Tea’s wider Earl Grey family. White Earl Grey combines rare Yin Zhen white tea with bergamot and light mineral notes for a refreshing brew. Earl Grey Buddha delivers a punchier take, with bergamot and lime leading into soft floral layers. For fermented tea aficionados, Earl Grey Pu-Erh offers earthiness brightened by zesty freshness, uniting East and West in a single cup.

This marriage of cultures reflects the very origins of Earl Grey. According to legend, Charles Grey, British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834 and the second Earl Grey, received a diplomatic gift of tea and bergamot from a Chinese friend. The composition, later enjoyed by generations, became the blend we now know as Earl Grey.

In 2025, that legacy is reimagined for today’s tea drinker.

The Grand Earl Grey pairs golden Yunnan black tea with Italian citrus to evoke sun-soaked days. Calabrian bergamot enlivens the black tea in a pas de deux of brightness and depth. A second sip unveils Tahitian vanilla, swaying the blend into a gentle waltz. Syrupy notes imbue warmth that lingers long after the last drop.

No wonder the Grand Earl Grey is the crown jewel of the collection. Rooted in history yet crafted for the present, this contemporary take on a classic blend marries the stories of the past with the sensibilities of the future.
