We know that quality sleep is essential for a sense of wellbeing. It plays an important role in physical and mental restoration, from cell repair to immune health, hormone regulation and energy levels. Without it, not only can we feel irritable and exhausted (cue the caffeine), but increase our risk of long-term health issues, including chronic disease – think diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
So when we talk about sleep hygiene, we’re not just referring to plush bedding and pillow mist – instead it’s about creating a sanctuary that encourages a deep slumber, leaving you refreshed, luminous and operating at your best.
And so below, you’ll find our guide to an optimal night’s rest, from mattress choice (it matters!) to relaxing rituals that will help you get to sleep and stay there.

SLEEP HYGIENE 101
Sleep hygiene refers to both your sleeping environment (i.e. the bedroom) and the routines you follow pre-bed time. Our bodies are creatures of habit, and in order for us to know it’s time to rest, we need to consider both our bed, and what we do of an evening.
YOUR MATTRESS MATTERS
A quality mattress is essential as it sets the foundation for a perfect night’s sleep – it provides proper support and comfort, turn preventing tossing and turning, or frequent waking. And is there really any feeling greater than melting into your dream mattress after a long day?
Snooze’s Madison® Mattress was made with sweet dreams in mind. A combination of indulgence and innovation, it has a cocooning effect around the body, helping you drift off easily, and wake up refreshed. Crafted and refined for over 25 years, the Madison® Mattress comes in a variety of sizes and styles: you can choose from a single to the extremely-special super king, as well as different ‘feels’ (because we all have an opinion when it comes to the softness of our sleeping environment). If you want to feel cushioned, you’ll love the ‘Plush’ option. ‘Firm’ is perfect for those who love more support, while ‘Medium’ is the ultimate in-between.
As far as engineering, Madison® is pretty much designed to afford you sleep nirvana, as well. There’s a German-crafted BodyResponseTM pocket coil support system that conforms to your unique body shape, and seriously-comfy combination of foams (think premium memory foam and UltraLoftTM cushioning fibre with wool and silk to relieve pressure). Every single mattress is designed in conjunction with the Ergonomic Institute of Munich, so you can rest easy knowing you’re properly supported. And if you’re someone – or sleep with someone – who gets hot in the night, temperature control is another game-changing feature. A unique panelling system regulates air flow, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. A dream.
Whatever your nighttime habits, Madison® has a mattress that will help not only facilitate quality sleep, but also ensure you look forward to bedtime. With a ranging including Ultra Premium, Deluxe and Classic, there’s an indulgent option for every person and preference.
The finishing touch is, of course, some luxurious bedding. We love breathable cotton (a great choice if you live in a warmer climate), soft linen (a premium, natural fibre that’s suitable year round), or silky tencel™ fibres (lightweight, smooth, and works to keep you dry and comfortable). Explore Snooze’s complete range here.
THE SNOOZE MADISON® MATTRESS RANGE STARTS AT $3,600 FOR A SINGLE, AND UP TO $20,000 FOR A SUPER KING.
PRE-SNOOZE RITUALS
Once you have a heavenly sleeping situation, you can focus on your pre-bed routine. Limit your blue light exposure at least an hour before you aim to fall asleep by turning on night mode (and this applies to everyone, not just insomniacs and light sleepers). Get into bed and wake up at the same time every day, and if you need a little extra help, incorporate rituals like sleep tea, meditation, white noise or a magnesium supplement. If light streams into your bedroom, a silk eye mask is also a luxe way to block it out.
SLEEP AND SKIN
So by this point we know sleep is essential for overall health, but it also plays a key role in cultivating skin health. Overnight, your body goes into repair mode, repairing accumulated damage. Lack of sleep, or poor-quality sleep can lead to dullness, dark circles, puffiness and irritation. If you make a habit of it, it can even accelerate the ageing process (a no thank you from us).
Give your complexion a helping hand by incorporating skincare that supports cellular turnover and repair. Start with a double cleanse to remove makeup, oil and pollutants, before applying a targeted serum and moisturiser. If you’re prone to dryness, you can even incorporate a dedicated night mask to replenish lost moisture while you snooze. Over time, you’ll wake up brighter, smoother and more luminous.
