The Wellness Code: A Wellness Retreat In The Heart Of Tokyo? It’s Not An Urban Legend

Enter: The Janu Tokyo, where wellness is more than a byword—it’s a lifestyle

Nestled in Azabudai Hills, Tokyo’s newest neighbourhood, Janu Tokyo is the latest brand under the Aman Group’s aegis to make its debut. Janu, which means “soul” in Sanskrit, is centred around connection, sustainability and wellness—the 122-key property was designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners and boasts interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, both of which have crafted unique design identity for Janu that reflects its East meets West ethos.

The shining star of the property is its expansive 4,000spm spa and wellness centre that encompasses four floors. Here, you will find one of Tokyo’s largest gyms, which has five movement studios for group exercise including spinning, yoga, golf simulation, and Muay Thai boxing—in line with Janu’s focus on social wellness. Fitness enthusiasts will also clock the Technogym equipment, as well as top-of-the-line equipment from Outrace and SkillX for more specialised training combinations.

Of course, after a hard workout, the spa is not to be missed as well. Pre-treatment, guests are encouraged to luxuriate in their extensive hydrotherapy and thermal area with a hammam and banya area, take a lap in their 25-metre indoor pool, or simply relax in the heated lounge pool to get in the mental state for the pampering to come. With seven treatment rooms and two Spa Houses (which can accommodate four guests for exclusive use), the spa provides an extensive menu, but a treatment not to be missed is the Janu Signature Massage, a singular 90-minute treatment will rejuvenate you from top to toe.

For those of you not planning a trip to Tokyo, fret not: Janu is looking to open 12 more properties in the next few years across the globe, in locations such as Thailand, Dubai, and Türkiye.
