Now that we're in the heat of summer, it's time to gather some new inspo to beat the heat

We’re back with some of the best beauty snaps over the weekend. From Aespa’s Ning Ning to Kwon Eun-bi, we’ve captured some of the new makeup and hairstyles that caught our eye. We could all learn a new thing or two for the upcoming summer months, like some angel-inspired glam, and even a comeback moment for graphic eyeliner.

Ning Ning’s Hair for Armageddon

It seems like we’re moving into the resurgence of 2010s beauty. For Aespa’s latest comeback, Ning Ning has rocked many styles—including a tried and true favourite of hers: Y2K—but the group’s lead singer recently opted for a grunge hairstyle. Ning Ning’s hairstylist kept her jet black locks up in a high ponytail, sans extensions, embracing the length and texture of her natural hair. It wouldn’t be a grunge-inspired hairstyle if it was sleek and tidy, so the fringe and framing pieces around Ning Ning’s face are chunky and messy. But before you go off to your salon to rebond your hair (never thought you’d want pin-straight hair again, huh?), you can achieve this look at home too, using a hot iron and a Tangle-Teezer for that volume.

Back in May, Quannah Chasinghorse attended the 2024 Met Gala in an H&M ballgown, wearing jewellery from an Indigenous artist. Beyond her fit for the prestigious event, what we’re still talking about one month on is her makeup. The head makeup artist for Euphoria, Donni Davy, recently showed us one of the products the model and actress wore to achieve her iridescent, blushed cheeks. Using the shimmery duochrome highlighter shade ‘Spiritually Complex’ from her brand Half Magic, the beauty expert shows us why we shouldn’t shy away from colour when we play with makeup.

Devon Aoki In Fast & Furious Makeup

US-based Asian creator Steph Hui is bringing back the era of Devon Aoki from the Fast & Furious franchise. Her tutorial shows us how sometimes beauty is all about having fun. To achieve Aoki’s smokey eye look, Hui uses a black pencil liner to draw on her fingertips before rubbing them all over her lids, for an effortlessly edgy look. No Suki makeup look would be complete without that bronzer but in 2024, it’s more sun-kissed and less fake tan. To achieve this, she uses the All Over Face Bronze Colour from NudeStix to add some natural warmth to her complexion.

Douyin Angel Makeup

If you’re on BeautyTok, you know that Douyin makeup is not to be trifled with. Douyin (Tiktok’s original Chinese counterpart) is famous for high-effort, full-glam looks, courtesy of Chinese influencers and beauty creators. And one of our favourite looks that we’ve spotted as of late is this angel-inspired makeup look. The focus here is all on the clear, bright skin. You’ll notice that the complexion is without any heavy contour or bronzer; it’s all about a clean canvas. The highlights of the look are in the cool-toned pink blush across the apples of the cheeks. To finish off your sweet angel-inspired look, keep the eyeliner straight and stretched out beyond the natural shape of your eyes for some subtle drama.

Halo Graphic Liner

Take it from Kwon Eun-bi: graphic liners are back. For her set at the Waterbomb Festival in Hong Kong, the singer added a fun detail to her fig-toned glam. Her makeup artist drew on a halo, to finish off her eye look. The sparkle is subtle but clear, making it the perfect graphic point for a summery festival like Waterbomb. If you’re looking for something more pronounced, you can learn from creator Q. Li who adopted a similar look, but magnified it to capture more attention.
