Renowned South Korean rapper and producer, Zico is set to return to the Korean music scene after a two-year hiatus since releasing his fourth mini album ‘Grown Ass Kid’. This time, he’s joining forces with the one and only Jennie Kim from Blackpink to release his 11th digital single, ‘SPOT’ that is scheduled to drop this Friday.
Just one week ago, Zico sent the internet into a frenzy after he released a 20-second-long sneak peek of his new song featuring Blackpink’s Jennie. The snippet quickly amassed a staggering 26.5 million views, showcasing Jennie’s impressive vocal prowess that left fans craving more. This marks Jennie’s second solo feature after launching her own agency, Odd Atelier. Back in March, she teamed up with Brockhampton’s Matt Champion to release ‘Slow Motion’, a soulful R&B track that was in the works for three years.
Anticipation for the collaboration was kept at an all-time high when Zico released concept photos of the duo in impeccably stylish attires. Jennie embraced the tenniscore aesthetic by rocking a stripe polo tee and drawstring mini skirt. For an elevated touch of sophistication, she accessorised with strings of lustrous pearl necklaces. Meanwhile, Zico was decked out in a casual ensemble comprising washed-out blue jeans and a white collared top.
A behind-the-scene vlog was shared on YouTube that took fans through the creative process behind the song. Zico expressed his gratitude to the Blackpink member, remarking that “Jennie poured her heart and soul into the recording process. She demonstrated professionalism by suggesting editing even when I complimented the sound. Jennie played a significant role in perfecting this track. The enjoyable collaboration has seen positive results.”
Based on the teaser that was released yesterday, the music video features a lively scene of friends dancing and partying throughout the night against the backdrop of a vibrant city that never sleeps.
