A secret map, a hidden treasure, and the swashbuckling seas spin a gripping tale in Robert Louis Stevenson’s beloved 17th century adventure story, and now, Treasure Island has a new chapter: as the inspiration for French jewellery maison Van Cleef & Arpels’s new high jewellery collection.
The first of a three-part collection, brilliant treasures, vivid marine flora and fauna, majestic ships and bold buccaneers are brought to life in precious metals and stones, wrought into the house’s iconic clips, ornate rings and earrings, and architectural necklaces.
Next, the collection turns to nature’s treasures, presenting a vibrant array of seashells, blossoms, and trees rendered in luminous hues. This chapter speaks to Van Cleef & Arpels’ timeless affinity for the natural world, capturing its beauty with unparalleled craftsmanship and vivid color palettes.
The final act celebrates the spirit of discovery, weaving global cultural inspirations into a rich tapestry of design. Pre-Colombian motifs meet Asian influences in pieces that embody the thrill of uncovering hidden treasures.
Among the collection’s standout creations is the Eurema clip, a stunning example of the maison’s mastery in high jewellery design. At the heart of this piece is a stunning 2.14-carat Mozambique ruby, known for its vivid red hue and exceptional clarity. The ruby is set with remarkable precision, allowing its rich colour to take centre stage, while diamonds surrounding it add a brilliant sparkle, enhancing the overall radiance of the piece. Drawing inspiration from nature—with its delicate curves and organic shapes reminiscent of butterflies in flight—the clip is a nod to the adventurous spirit of Treasure Island.
Other highlights include the striking Charme De Rajasthan ring in yellow gold and a Pirate John clip in yellow, white and rose gold with diamonds, sapphires and rubies, encapsulating Van Cleef & Arpels’s rich heritage. Playful yet sophisticated, these pieces reimagine Stevenson’s classic tale through the lens of contemporary high jewellery.
