Are red carpet events are the new launch events?

Yesterday, amid the frenzy of the Met Gala coverage, two stars stood out for the jaw-dropping jewellery pieces that they were wearing for the night: Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Anne Hathaway. The gag? They were both debuting pieces from Roman jeweller Bvlgari’s upcoming high jewellery collection, Polychroma. Officially, Polychroma is set to launch in a splashy event in sun-drenched Taormina, Italy, in two weeks to a handful of high jewellery clients and press.

Chopra Jonas paired her Balmain Couture look with the Magnus Emerald necklace, a stunning emerald and diamond necklace featuring a rare 241.06-carat emerald at its centre. According to Town & Country, it is the largest faceted stone ever set by Bvlgari and “inspired by the idea of harmony in diverse forms, specifically of the union between nature and design”.

Meanwhile, Hathaway went for a classic white dress shirt and statement skirt combo from Carolina Herrera, and finished off her look with another piece from the Polychroma high jewellery collection, the Cosmic Vault Necklace featuring diamonds and sapphires, with a massive 123.35-carat sugarloaf sapphire centre stone.

Taking to Instagram, Bvlgari’s creative director Lucia Silvestri revealed more about the magnificent creations. “Bvlgari unveils the new High Jewelry collection, Polychroma, at the 2025 Met Gala. It was love at first sight, twice. A 241-carat emerald and a 123-carat sapphire, so extraordinary in their energy and beauty, inspired two timeless creations. A dazzling fusion of rare intensity and visionary design, destined to enter the history of our Maison. These masterpieces celebrate not only the unparalleled rarity of the gems, but also the purity of their lines and the excellence of our craftsmanship,” she wrote.

“A heartfelt thank you to @priyankachopra and @annehathaway for wearing our creations with such elegance and grace, and for enhancing their brilliance with your timeless style,” she added.

Besides Chopra Jonas and Hathaway, other notable celebrities of the night chose to make a statement with Bvlgari, including this year’s Met Gala co-chair A$AP Rocky, who also wore pieces from the Polychroma high jewellery collection; as well as house ambassadors Zendaya and Lisa of Blackpink.

Jewellery houses are increasingly leveraging high profile red carpet events to make “soft launches” of soon-to-be-revealed high jewellery collections. Just earlier this year, Cartier debuted pieces from the third chapter of its Nature Sauvage high jewellery collection—ahead of its official launch in April in Singapore—on Zoe Saldana at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, and also on Jisoo of Blackpink at the Grand Diner du Louvre. Is this new launch trend going to catch on? Only time will tell…
