The actor and longtime environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has just participated in the CHF 2 million (S$3.06 million) seed round for the 3-year-old sustainability-focused watch brand ID Genève, alongside several Swiss family offices. He has been photographed wearing a timepiece from the watchmaker’s Circular S collection, a 41mm watch with a yellow dial and fluted sides. “I am thrilled to be an investor in ID Genève, a brand that’s driving change in the luxury industry and beyond, by consistently innovating and focusing on circular economy principles,” says the Killers of the Flower Moon star.
ID Genève was recently awarded B Corporation certification for its “verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability”, and its latest collection, the Circular S, is made fully with recycled steel melted in a solar furnace, complemented by compostable watch straps crafted from grape residue left over from winemaking, and packed in materials derived from mycelium and seaweed.
From the first collection, Circular 1, to Circular S, the watches run on refurbished automatic ETA 2824 movements, with 38 hours of power reserve, and a date window at 3 o’clock.
