Franck Muller launched its Vanguard Beach collection at the Vanguard Beach Party last week. In attendance at Marquee Singapore were Nicholas Rudaz, CEO of Franck Muller Geneve, and Sharon Lim, CEO of Franck Muller Southeast Asia and Australia, together with clients and guests of the brand.
Rendered in matt red, blue and green, the three monochromatic Vanguard Beach timepieces run on the FM 800-DT self-winding movement with the bidirectional rotor system, with 42 hours of power reserve, and are completed with a fabric self-fastening strap. Measuring 41mm by 49.95mm, the distinctive tonneau Vanguard cases are made of a light but robust glass fibre composite, which is as strong as steel but weighs a quarter as much.
The hypnotic swirling striations in the case comes from how the material is fabricated: glass is melted at 1,500 degrees Celsius and fashioned into fine filaments and then sheets, which are layered and compressed into the raw material for the cases. And decoration such as Côtes de Genève, perlage, chamfering and snailing can be seen across various components of the movement.
