There are few jewellers who are more obsessed with light than French maison Fred. Its founder, Fred Samuel, was positively obsessed with this luminous quality throughout his life, recording vivid descriptions about it in his journals throughout his life—from his sun-drenched childhood in Argentina, to the light-dappled azure waters of the French Riviera. His love of light eventually earned him the moniker that his maison is still known for today: The Sunshine Jeweller.

For this year’s high jewellery collection, designed by third generation scion Valérie Samuel, the vice-president and artistic director of Fred, the masion once again turned to its founder’s bright legacy for inspiration. Dubbed Monsieur Fred Ideal Light, the high jewellery collection encompasses four scintillating movements that blend the house’s history with modern design for some of the most uniquely precious pieces.

“This collection is an invitation to escape. It celebrates my grandfather’s creative energy, born out of the light and vibrant colours that marked his childhood in Argentina and that have always made me dream. Sunny and ultra-colourful, these four new sets immerse us in a timeless Buenos Aires, at the crossroads of dreams and reality,” Samuel said.

Drawing on these touchpoints, the four movements of the high jewellery collection—Blazing Audacity, Exalting Joy, Bright Vitality and Endless Horizon—are an epic journey through Argentina, from La Boca to Monserrat. The charm, vibrancy and architectural details of the locale are translated into fabulous pieces with a whiff of the Art Deco and the exotic. The stones used in the collection themselves come from far-flung places across the globe: Australian opals, Tanzanian spinels, Colombian emeralds and Sri Lankan sapphires are but some of the most eye-catching in this delightfully expressive collection.
