Is there anything more New York than throwing a block party? That’s exactly what luxury luggage brand Rimowa did when they launched their Seit 1898 exhibition at Chelsea Factory.
The exhibition explores the company’s 125-year history, from its origins in Cologne, to showcasing the brand’s mastery of creating travel cases, to its artistic partnerships, collaborations and even privately-owned cases from some of the world’s top creative minds and celebrities.
The maison shut down half of the street for a heaving party on a sweltering September night, and invited the coolest guests to celebrate their 125-year history, including new ambassador and Never Still campaign star Rosé of Blackpink, SF9’s Rowoon, Martha Stewart, Skepta and more. Guests milled around the cavernous space and took in the 100 over archive cases, danced to beats by Carlita and enjoyed an exlcusive performance by British rapper Central Cee. Proper NYC hot dog stands were also on site to complete the block party experience.
New York is the second stop for the travelling exhibition—the first one being Tokyo—and it was the first event to kick off New York Fashion Week. It will next move on to Shanghai and then to Cologne to cap off the brand’s celebrations.
