After four years away from New York Fashion Week, iconic American fashion house Ralph Lauren finally returned to the schedule this year. Not one to do things by halves, the brand took over the Brooklyn Navy Yard, transforming it into a jazzed up barn (replete with Ralph Lauren Home furnishings) to showcase their spring/summer 2024 collection. Following the show, the legendary designer took a bow and led the contingent of stars and press to dinner, where Polo Bar classics were served. Here’s your rundown of the glittering evening.
The SS24 collection melded classic Americana with bohemian spirit
This season, the iconic American designer returned to the New York Fashion Week calendar, transforming the Brooklyn Navy Yards into a glamorously chic barn (replete with Ralph Lauren Home furnishings!) to showcase his SS24 collection. It kicked off with classic Americana—crisp shirts and polo tees paired with denim—and evolved into slinky, jewel-tone silk numbers with pops of gilded gold throughout.
It was an ode to the bohemian free spirit and individuality
Lauren said that the spring/summer 2024 collection was “about a new kind of romance—cool and sophisticated … These are the stories of the woman I design for whose individuality and artistic spirit are a canvas for her own self-expression.” Major jewellery and accessories were also how the Ralph Lauren woman expressed her individuality this season, with layers of beaded necklaces and chandelier earrings taking the main stage.
Denim was a key cornerstone of the collection
What’s more American than denim? Lauren turned the utilitarian fabric into high fashion, jazzed up with painterly florals, feathers and embroidery. Take note: the Canadian tuxedo will be everywhere next spring.
There was a glittering dinner to cap off the evening
Following the show, Lauren led everyone into dinner where Polo Bar classics like the filet mignon and brownie were on the menu. Guests mingled freely at the bar, where Emily In Paris star Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu was spotted popping fried olives and Emma Roberts was heard telling Cara Delevigne that she was so starstruck by Turlington that she forgot to ask for a photo.
There was some serious star power on the runway and front row
When Ralph Lauren puts on a show, you can expect his celebrity pals to show up to support him: on the runway, supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Christy Turlington elicited gasps of delight; while the front row boasted celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Diane Keaton, Julianne Moore, Li Bingbing, Ayami Nakajo, Charles Melton, Pom Klementieff and more.
