Peter Do has been named the new creative director of Helmut Lang. Effective Monday, the Vietnamese designer will be helming the historic house, preserving Lang’s legacy of minimalist tailoring and androgynous designs.

“No one embodied radical thinking more definitively than Helmut Lang. It is my deep honour to be entrusted with ushering in the next chapter of Helmut Lang’s legacy. I am excited to learn from the foundations this house stands on and to continue creating new, energetic clothes that inspire people to challenge their understanding of what is possible when it comes to expressing their individuality,” Do said in the press release.

The designer is a natural fit for the fashion house. Upon his graduation from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Do went on to work alongside Phoebe Philo at Céline, who gained a cult-like following for her elegant collections designed with the modern woman in mind. It seems that her tasteful sensibilities have rubbed off on Do, who continued championing effortless cool at his eponymous brand. The New York-based label has gained celebrity attention too, spotted on the likes of NCT’s Jeno, who opened Peter Do’s spring/summer 2023 runway, as well as on Zendaya and Beyoncé.

Do’s first collection for Helmut Lang will be spring/summer 2024, which will be presented during New York Fashion Week in September.
