At only 17, Haerin of NewJeans has already mastered the art of dressing like a lady. Actually, the K-pop star goes beyond that: at Dior’s recent fashion show in New York, she was confident enough to add a twist to the classic look.
Attending Dior’s Fall 2024 fashion show at the Brooklyn Museum, Haerin opted for a black shirt and a flared midi-length skirt. Her skirt, which was belted at the waist and covered in a romantic floral print, was a straightforward option in creating a feminine outfit. But her top offered an unexpected detail: it featured a bold, one-shoulder design.
Both pieces came from Dior’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection. For the collection, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri explored the French fashion brand’s archival designs and gave them a contemporary update. Chiuri was particularly interested in reinterpreting the Abandon dress, designed by Monsieur Christian Dior for his Fall/Winter 1948 haute couture collection. The dress follows the couturier’s iconic New Look silhouette—cinched waist, wide flared skirt—with which he revolutionised women’s fashion and defined ladylike dressing in the ‘50s. But the dress also had an asymmetrical collar that exposed one side of its wearer’s neck and shoulders.
That asymmetry was referenced in Chiuri’s designs for the season, especially in the shirts. Working with the unique neckline of her shirt, Haerin completed her look with a Dior necklace featuring a star pendant. Her other choice of accessory was the Mini Lady Dior Bag, which also came in black like the rest of her ensemble. The NewJeans singer looked right at home on the front row, where she rubbed shoulders with fellow celebrities and Dior ambassadors including Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlize Theron and Rosamund Pike.
Earlier in the week, Haerin also made another style statement in Dior. This time, she did so at the Incheon International Airport in South Korea, where she boarded a New York-bound flight to catch the maison’s fashion show. Haerin wore a Dior T-shirt adorned with a striking map of Paris, which she tucked into a pair of black skorts. She styled these pieces with Dior’s knee-length leather boots in black—creating a very ‘60s-inspired airport fashion outfit that Maria Grazia Chiuri would approve of. Get a closer look below.
