Beyond the red carpet glamour, it was these celebrity couples who held our full attention during fashion’s biggest night out

The moment has come: the Met Gala 2024 is officially in full swing. This year’s event was co-hosted by Anna Wintour, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Lopez to celebrate the exclusive opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. While fashion’s biggest night out is undeniably a major event for celebrities, it holds even greater significance for Hollywood couples. With all eyes on the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there’s no better moment than the first Monday of May to publicly announce their relationship by climbing the steps of the Met together, hand in hand, in grand fashion.

Beyond adhering to the theme, the celebrity couples who make an indelible mark on the red carpet are the ones who go the extra mile to coordinate their looks. Remember when Rihanna and ASAP Rocky debuted as a couple in the 2021 Met Gala with matching extravagant coats? Or the time during the 2016 Met Gala when when Zayn Malik sported a black tuxedo with a metallic arm sleeve to complement Gigi Hadid’s sequin Tommy Hilfiger gown? This year was no different. Couples such as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, or Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan—who finally made their red carpet debut—delivered their best interpretation of the theme, “The Garden Of Time” with their show-stopping outfits.

Ahead, we’re rounded up our favourite celebrity couple sightings who conquered the 2024 Met Gala in style.

Dove Cameron and Måneskin frontman Damiano David perfectly embodied the night’s theme with coordinated see-through outfits from Diesel. Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky served Hollywood glamour on the red carpet. Hemsworth wore a cream three-piece suit custom made by Tom Ford, while his wife donned a gold shimmery turtleneck gown. To complete the look, the Spanish actress accessorised with a gilded headpiece and golden cuff bracelets.

Kris Jenner and longtime boyfriend Corey Gamble honoured this year’s theme while donning all-white matching outfits. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star made a grand appearance in an Oscar De La Renta white satin gown and a billowing coat that tailed gracefully behind her. Oversized white flowers were stitched across the back of the coat for an added dramatic flair.

Long-time Met Gala attendees Rita Ora and Taika Waititi made another grand appearance at fashion’s biggest night out. Keeping to an earthy colour palette, Waititi wore a brown leather suit. To honour the theme, Ora chose a multi-coloured string dress adorned with beads that date all the way back to the first and second century.

Sam Smith and Christian Cowan found inspiration in the 1940s for their Met Gala debut look. Both of them wore sleek tuxedos in black and white designed by Cowan himself. The attention is in the details: the couple honoured the theme by accessorising with gold plated roses delicately placed at the side of their suit jackets.

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban turned the Met Gala into their very own date night. Kidman was the picture of a fairytale princess as she donned a white silk ball gown adorned with black ruffles, which was a recreation of a 1950s Balenciaga couture gown. Her husband completed his outfit wearing a classic black tuxedo and a white bow tie.
