Busy Woman: Max & Co And Sami Miró’s Collaboration Celebrates Multifaceted Women

The &Co.llaboration: Becoming Undone collection captures a woman always evolving (and looking good while she does it)

How does she do it? It’s a question that hangs over the modern woman expected to be everything, everywhere, all at once. Max & Co offers a compelling answer: she isn’t perfectly put-together, but intentionally unfinished, allowing space for an ever-evolving sense of self. This idea emerges in the brand’s latest capsule collection, &Co.llaboration: Becoming Undone with Sami Miró.

Miró—a Los Angeles-based designer with a flair for deconstruction—opts for raw-edged silhouettes that play lightly against the brand’s Italian refinement. While this might sound like a study in contrast, it is anything but. As Miró explains, “It was never about compromise—it was about synergy.” Max & Co’s restless ethos threads through &Co.llaboration: Becoming Undone, accentuating Miró’s irreverent taste.

If anything, the dialogue of styles in the collection strengthens contemporary femininity. Pieces feel unmistakably of the now, mixing C-suite officewear with It-girl sensibilities. Crisp poplin shirts are cinched at the waist, while signature Max & Co blazers become backless and short-sleeved. Miró’s Californian roots peek through in denim pieces, dyed midnight blue and reworked into a jacket with corduroy lapels or as a corset with contoured seams. Even jeans are not merely jeans, sporting double-frayed hems to lengthen proportions.

Versatility is a central tenet of the collection, with pieces designed to mix and transform from day to night. At first glance, a black jacket displays all the precision of Max & Co craftsmanship, tailored from buttery nappa leather and fastened with metal press-studs. Look closer and hidden zippers beneath its sleeves open into deep slits for an evening-ready silhouette. Separately, the traditional three-piece suit finds a playful reinterpretation: an oversized pin-striped blazer paired with a gabardine minidress whose deep-cut neckline and menswear-inspired fabric recall a vest more than a dress.

Much like the modern woman, the collection pivots between confidence, complexity, and a hint of mischief. “There’s a woman who can do it all inside each of us—a woman who is entrepreneurial, intelligent, poised, healthy, and social,” says Miró. “That woman is you, that woman is me, and that woman is Max & Co”.

And perhaps that is the point. The double-frayed hem, the hidden zipper, the backless blazer—each is a small act of refusal, a rejection of the idea that a woman, or a garment, must be fully resolved to be worth wearing. &Co.llaboration: Becoming Undone doesn’t dress the modern woman so much as give her permission to remain, productively, a work in progress.

Below, Miró reveals more about the collection.

The title of the new Max & Co &Co.llaboration is “Becoming Undone”. Why did you choose it and what was the idea behind the name of this project?
Sami Miró (SM):
The title “Becoming Undone” was chosen because it captures the poetic duality at the heart of this collaboration—the beauty in both becoming and unraveling, intentionally and powerfully. It reflects a sense of self-expression, embracing imperfection as part of the creative process. Becoming Undone represents versatility, confidence, and the freedom to express every facet of who we are.

How would you describe this collection and what were the inspirations behind it?
SM: This collection is a celebration of bold femininity, individuality, and the beauty found within—both in garments and the women who wear them. I’ve always been intrigued by the unseen elements of a garment—the inner structure, the edits, the technical beauty often hidden from view. Inspired by the modern-day renaissance woman—complex, creative, resilient—each design reflects a moment of evolution. It’s a love letter to confidence and transformation.

Can you tell us some anecdotes about your experience in Italy while creating the collection?
SM:
What stood out most was the exceptional hospitality from the Max & Co team. One moment that really stayed with me was a late-night dinner after a long day of fittings and creative discussions. That night, I truly felt the spirit of Reggio Emilia and the heart behind the brand. They didn’t just help build a collection; they helped reinvigorate my creative energy.

Which is your favourite piece of the collection and why?
SM:
It’s hard to choose a favourite because I’m genuinely obsessed with every single piece in this collection. But if I had to pick, our coat holds a special place in my heart—it’s timeless, bold, and the perfect reflection of the collection’s energy. Since the themes of the collaboration are woven through every fabrication and detail, it all connects, no matter how you wear it.
