If you’ve already ordered your favourite pieces from Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Takashi Murakami online, well, you may want to make another shopping trip.
On 4 January 2025, the maison will open the doors to an immersive pop-up store in Singapore dedicated to the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection.
For two weeks, the French luxury brand is taking over the historic shophouse at 72 Joo Chiat Place, which is easy enough to spot. The shophouse’s façade has been transformed with the smiley flower sculptures inspired by Murakami’s Superflat Garden artworks, as well as the vibrant Monogram Multicolore pattern that the Japanese artist created for Louis Vuitton in 2003.
Inside, you can shop the first drop of the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collaboration, dubbed “Chapter One”, which comprises over 170 pieces. Fashion collectors will want to snag pieces from the Monogram Multicolore line, which features Murakami’s colourful spin on the classic Louis Vuitton monogram. Besides the French fashion brand’s beloved bags like the Speedy, the Dauphine and the Alma BB, the Monogram Multicolore also appears on accessories like belts, wallets, silk scarves and shoes.
Aside from the monogram pieces, you’ll also find bags, small leather goods and objects adorned with Murakami’s Superflat Panda and Superflat Garden artworks. The adorable Panda character, for example, appears front and centre on a limited-edition skateboard, a jigsaw puzzle set, as well as a card holder that is exclusively available in Singapore.
Speaking of exclusive: upon making your purchase at the pop-up store, you will receive a token that lets you play Louis Vuitton’s special vending machine. What can you expect to win? There are Louis Vuitton x Murakami sticker sets, Tamagotchi toys, and—the rarest of all prizes—trading cards.
The Cinema offers just as much fun as the vending machine. In the cosy space adorned with Murakami flower cushions, visitors can watch the two animated films that Murakami created for Louis Vuitton: Superflat Monogram (2003) and Superflat First Love (2009). Both films have been remastered to celebrate the reissue Murakami’s Louis Vuitton collaboration, and will make for a trippy and psychedelic viewing experience.
Another part of the pop-up worth checking out is the Café. In the pink room, guests can enjoy a cup of coffee or special drinks like Coconut Latte, Cherry Plum and Butterfly Lemonade. Drinks are served in a Superflat Panda paper cup, and come with a complimentary cookie inspired by Murakami’s smiley flower artworks.
The Café is the perfect place to wait while you get your vintage Louis Vuitton x Murakami bags touched up at the Care Station. There, Louis Vuitton artisans will be available to offer care and repair services including the replacement of parts like straps and buttons; canvas and metal cleaning; and paint care. Considering that the collaboration first debuted over 20 years ago, you may have precious pieces from it that need new life breathed into them.
Clearly, there are plenty of reasons to stop by Louis Vuitton’s Murakami pop-up. But it’s also worth noting that Singapore is the only Southeast Asian location for the pop-up experience. The other locations are London, Milan, New York City, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo; unless you’re travelling to those cities, you will want to head down to Joo Chiat. As of 3 January, slots for the Singapore pop-up have been fully registered—but walk-ins are still welcome. Get a sneak peek through the video below.
The Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up runs from 4 to 19 January 2025 at 72 Joo Chiat Place. It is open from 12pm to 8pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and 11am to 9.30pm on Fridays and Sundays.
