Lola Tung stars alongside herself in Coach’s new campaign for its sub-brand, Coachtopia. In the surreal images, the Asian-American actress and her double are seen floating above the clouds while toting bags from the new Coachtopia Alter/Ego collection.
Launched last year, Coachtopia focuses on circular craft and sustainable practices; the label’s upcycled bags are distinguished by their use of the Checkerboard Upcrafted Leather technique, which repurposes leather scraps that are left over from the production of Coach’s bags.
The technique is used across the five bag styles that are introduced in the Coachtopia Alter/Ego collection: a shoulder bag, a hobo bag, a baguette bag, a satchel and a mini satchel bag. Notably, those last two bags are crafted with leftover materials from the making of Coach’s Brooklyn bag. The shoulder bag and the hobo bag, meanwhile, make use of the leather scraps from the cult-favourite Coach Tabby bag.
The special craft behind Coachtopia’s bags is emphasised in the new campaign film, The Wasted Parts, which is also fronted by Tung. In the short clip, the star of The Summer I Turned Pretty plays two versions of herself: a chic Coach girl and a climate activist Coachtopia fan. The former carries a Coach Quilted Tabby, while the latter has a Coachtopia Alter/Ego shoulder bag. The two are pulled together, high above New York City, by a magnetic connection between their bags. The film ends with Coachtopia’s slogan: “Have Taste. Love Waste”.
The Coachtopia bags marry both style and sustainability—proving, as Coach’s new campaign does, that you don’t have to choose between the two. You can discover the bags at the Coach Play Shophouse, which has a dedicated Coachtopia Room.
Below, take a closer look at the new Coachtopia Alter/Ego collection, which will be available for Fall/Winter 2024.
