Since his debut last September, Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno has refreshed the Italian fashion brand with an air of easy elegance. The designer’s debut collection made proposals for the new Gucci woman: she pairs her tank tops or cropped knit shirts with itty-bitty shorts, and moves freely in her boxy jackets and embellished shift dresses. That idea of relaxed sophistication has been translated into the new Gucci Lido collection, De Sarno’s irresistibly chic idea of a summer wardrobe.
The collection takes inspiration from the stylish beach clubs (or “lidos”) that can be found along Italy’s coastline. The glamour of those summer hotspots can be seen in the Gucci Lido offerings: minimalist, monogrammed swimwear worthy of a ‘90s supermodel; striped silk shirts and pants to wear while lounging on a beach chair; and knit minidresses that will make you stand out at a poolside party.
The colours of the Gucci Lido collection are likewise fun and playful, with pops of neon hues appearing across the ready-to-wear pieces, shoes and accessories. That includes the Gucci Luce, a small shoulder bag crafted from GG canvas, which is now offered in lime green and pink.
Speaking of bags, the Gucci Lido collection is full of stylish options. The iconic Gucci Jackie handbag has been reimagined in blue denim, while the GG Marmont bag now comes covered in colourful stripes and crafted from straw-effect raffia. That lightweight and textured material has also been used on an array of basket tote bags that are embroidered with bold “Gucci” logo patches.
To fully capture the joyous mood of the Gucci Lido collection, Gucci has unveiled a campaign showcasing its new styles. The images and video echo De Sarno’s first-ever Gucci campaign, featuring Daria Werbowy at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. They also reflect the designer’s statement on his debut collection: “It is a story of fabulous, diverse people; it’s Getty images of cool people of all ages, and it’s inclusive as in everyone is welcomed.”
Aside from the campaign, the fashion brand is also bringing the Gucci Lido experience to life through a series of pop-ups hosted in famous resort destinations—including Singapore. The Gucci Lido pop-up will be held at Marina Bay Sands, Level 1 Grand Colonnade South from 29 April to 19 May. At the vibrant space, you can discover the full range of clothes, swimwear, shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories from the collection, as well as exclusive pieces.
