Follow your heart: that’s the message emblazoned on the notebooks that came with the invitations to Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show in Milan Fashion Week. Of course, the notebooks were in Gucci Rosso Ancora, the official name of the oxblood hue that creative director Sabato De Sarno established as a new Gucci signature.
The upcoming Gucci show will mark De Sarno’s second women’s collection for the brand. It’s also a chance for the designer to paint a clearer and more complete picture of his vision for Gucci.
Both his debut show for the Italian luxury brand in September, and the men’s show held last month, were straightforward showcases of clothes and accessories. De Sarno drew inspiration from both the ‘60s and the ‘90s, resulting in a minimalist collection of A-line dresses and slit skirts for women; long coats and slim for men; and sharp blazers and sleek leather jackets for both.
Desirable designs aside, both fashion shows, as well as Gucci’s new Spring/Summer 2024 campaign, lacked the dramatic storytelling that De Sarno’s predecessor, Alessandro Michele, was known for. For many, these questions linger: Who is the new Gucci woman? How does she lead her life? What inspires her?
The answers to those questions, which are essential to every fashion brand, may be unveiled today. Below, tune in to the livestream of Gucci Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show taking place in Milan on 23 February at 10.00 pm (Singapore time).
