A lot has happened in the high fashion realm in the past season. At Chloé, Chemena Kamali debuted with a lineup of frothy dresses, while Sabato De Sarno unveiled his sophomore womenswear collection for Gucci.
Meanwhile, Miu Miu—who topped The Lyst Index as the hottest fashion brand in the first quarter of 2024—opened with a look worn by top client Dr. Qin Huilan. Though all eyes were on the happenings at each fashion house, details such as bags and shoes from each collection were equally attention-grabbing.
The accessories at the Fall/Winter 2024 shows displayed the designers’ playful spirit. Bags pushed the limits of maximalism with colours, beading and hardware detailing. For one, the opening look at Moschino—known for its irreverence towards fashion’s norms and traditions—was a classic trench coat paired with heels and gloves, shining the spotlight on an oversized paper bag containing faux baguettes and stalks of celery.
At Chloé, Kamali paid tribute to the label’s signature house codes with slouchy suede mini bags and oversized leather totes, their softness complemented by the gold hardware handles. Gold studs were featured on many shoes on Chloé’s runway, from black suede boots to white leather flats, and fringes punctuated other designs.
This attention to detail towards footwear was not unique to Chloé though: Schiaparelli saw sandals with straps made to look like measuring tape; Givenchy brought back the square-toe with a pair of silver pumps; and Ferragamo’s runway looks starred shoes adorned with feathers.
Signature designs at the houses were updated too—think Louis Vuitton’s quilted leather Go-14 bag reimagined in brown fabric and beading, and Loewe’s Squeeze bag that featured intricate images of a bird and tree branches.
