Dolce & Gabbana has long been synonymous with Italian luxury and the Alta Moda 2023 collection proves once again why the brand remains a force to be reckoned with. The fashion extravaganza held in the palatial setting of Alberobello, Puglia was a captivating journey through time and all-Italian culture, through the lens of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s joint memories and shared love together in the country.
At the core of the collection stood Dolce & Gabbana’s dedication to craftsmanship, and authenticity to Apulian artistry. Honing the sensual capabilities in layers of tulle and chiffon, organza and lace in a myriad of hyper-feminine silhouettes as per the designers’ modus operandi. It’s strikingly clear that the architectural design sensibilities and Italian construction of Trullo were weaved into the collection as oversized hats atop models were crafted after these conical rooftops unique to the region of Puglia.
While the Italian house may be known for their high octane glamour, Alto Moda 2023 was somewhat a deviation of the usual extravagance and opulence as the pared down collection had local artisans showcase their true capabilities. The collection saw a departure from the silver, gold and crystals from last year’s show in Sicily while subdued tones took over the runway, maintaining a restrained sensuality brought to life by the abundance of sheer pieces and corsetry. The amalgamation of crochet, embroidery and weaving techniques brought upon a refreshing sense of lightness within the decadent collection, a feat not gone amiss by A-list show-goers such as Kim Kardashian, Kerry Washington, Leonie Hanne and more.
