Since her appointment as Dior’s inaugural female creative director in 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri has continually sparked meaningful conversations surrounding women through fashion. For Dior’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, she revisited the maison’s rich history and closely studied the muses of Christian Dior. She drew inspiration from the uncompromising personal style of Marlene Dietrich, a German-American Hollywood actress who was not only a close friend of Christian Dior but a major patron of the French luxury house. She embraced both her feminine and androgynous sides, effortlessly transitioning between dresses and suits in her day-to-day. Dietrich was best known for her revolutionary gender-bending style, she was among the first who wore menswear in public in the 1930s. From structured blazers to wide-legged trousers and pencil skirts, you can expect the same androgynous allure to shape Chiuri’s new collection.
The collection, spanning 116 looks, was first unveiled online in December 2023 during Dior’s pre-fall campaign and is set to make its runway debut on 16 April 2024, 8.00 am (Singapore time) at Brooklyn Museum, New York.
