Coach Celebrates New York City And Gen Z Style For Spring/Summer 2026

“I thought about a delicate balance of polish and shine with grit, a pairing I think of as very New York,” says Coach creative director Stuart Vevers

If there is a fashion brand that can be described as “so New York”, it’s Coach. It’s apt, then, that the American label celebrated the distinctive energy and aesthetic of New York City for its Spring/Summer 2026 collection.

Coach’s latest fashion show was presented at a runway show in New York City (where else?), specifically at Pier 36 in downtown Manhattan. Creative director Stuart Vevers says that he wanted to capture “the beauty of how the city comes back to life every morning”, offering a sense of possibility. That’s why so many of the runway looks came in the soft white of morning light, starting with the opener: a sleeveless coat in distressed denim.

A similar look was seen on the front row, on Coach brand ambassador and actress Elle Fanning. Fanning is part of the supposedly fickle generation that the 84-year-old American fashion brand has, under Vevers’s tenure, managed to win over: Gen Z.

Coach’s latest collection is clearly designed for them. The opening coat’s silhouette—fitted at the top, flowing at the bottom—was echoed throughout the collection, be it through the pairing of muscle tanks and vests with baggy jeans, or the printed tank dresses featuring the skylines and landscapes of Vevers’s favourite American cities, including Phoenix, Seattle and Coach’s home, New York City. The prints also appeared on graphic T-shirts, resembling the vintage band tees that Gen Zs scour thrift stores and Depop listings for.

Vevers references Gen Zs’s obsession with all things vintage in his Coach designs. The collection’s leather jackets and vests were treated to look aged and worn, while the aforementioned jeans were cut from repurposed denim that is already torn, frayed and scuffed. Just as grungy are the knit sweaters that come with holes in them. (The Coach logo patch, though, remains intact on these pieces.)

The pre-loved look of the clothes is also a tribute to New York City. “This idea of things that are used and lived-in being precious comes from New York,” wrote Vevers on Instagram. “I thought of seats on the subway that make a new place for every rider but have seen decades of wear, and of the streetscapes we all share.”

Even the tailoring seems to have a sense of history. Coach’s oversized blazers, fitted with shoulder pads, look as though they were raided from the closet of someone’s stylish grandpa. Those jackets were styled with wide trousers crafted from a patchwork of classic checks and Coach’s equally classic monogram canvas.

A mishmash of materials is also seen in this season’s Coachtopia upcycled bags, each one made with scraps of leather, monogram canvas and other waste fabrics from Coach’s production factories. The standout accessories, however, are the duffel bags and hobo bags featuring the Kisslock Frame. That detail is taken from the 1969 Cashin Carry bag, by former Coach lead designer Bonnie Cashin.

That nod to the Coach archives is something that the fashion brand’s young fans will surely appreciate, given their newfound appetite for vintage Coach bags. But even while looking to the brand’s past, Vevers has made sure that his designs are rooted in the now, allowing a new generation of Coach customers to tell their stories through their style.

“I see perfectly patinaed vintage Coach bags in my local Upper West Side flea market, but I also see them in the most rarefied antique store in the Connecticut countryside or in vintage shops in New Mexico,” says Vevers. “Coach is all over America, ready to tell someone’s story and then start all over again. Coach is there to be the start of something new.”
