Every year, the Palais Garnier hosts the Opening Gala for the Paris Opera, which kicks off a new dance season. It’s a stylish affair, partly thanks to Chanel, which is a major patron of the Paris Opera. The French luxury house has been supporting the annual Opening Gala since 2018, and this year was no exception. For the Paris Opera Opening Gala in 2024 the maison also created the beautiful costumes worn in the ballet Word For Word, which was performed during the event.
Like the dancers on stage, the evening’s guests were also clad in Chanel. Among them was GRAZIA Singapore cover star Becky Armstrong, who stunned in a glittering black velvet dress from Chanel’s Manchester-inspired Métiers d’Art 2024 collection (note the Union Jack-inspired sequin embroidery along the neckline). Another understated but elegant outfit was spotted on Thai singer and actress Ally Nitibhon, who opted for a little black dress adorned with a print of pearls and the Chanel logo, and a pair of black pumps.
Actress Lupita Nyong’o, who announced as a brand ambassador for Chanel this week, made quite the statement in a dramatic black cape fastened with a bow, worn over a velvet minidress. Both pieces are from Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2024 haute couture collection, which was presented at the Palais Garnier back in June. Indian actress Ananya Panday graced the gala in a draped organza gown, embellished with beads, gems and bows. Meanwhile, Icelandic singer Laufey seemed to come straight out of a fairytale in her dreamy outfit, for which she layered an embroidered floral vest over a sheer tulle dress.
