Before flip-flops were embraced as a style staple by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber, another It-girl was a few slippered steps ahead of them: Blackpink’s Rosé.
The K-pop star has been reminding us of this all summer. On Instagram, Rosé has shared photos of her out and about in Milan—one of the destinations on the Europe leg of Blackpink’s Deadline World Tour—wearing an off-shoulder crop top in black, a miniskirt in white, and a pair of thong sandals in black and white.
Rosé wore those same flip-flops on a boat ride in Italy, this time as part of an outfit worthy of a luxurious beach club. She wore a blank tank top; a glittering micro skirt lined with rosettes (a nod to her name, surely), from the Italian swimwear label Oséree; and the new Saint Laurent Baby Icare Hobo bag. Besides slippers, the Blackpink star sported another trendy accessory: a silk scarf, which she wrapped over her Brandy Melville cap and around her head for maximum sun protection.

Rosé didn’t only reserve her barely-there footwear for Europe. In July, the On The Ground singer was spotted braving the gritty streets of New York wearing black flip-flops, which she boldly took from day to night. First, she wore them with a flowy, sheer white blouse and Acne Studios jeans. She later switched her romantic blouse for a sultry black lace camisole from Saint Laurent when she stepped out onto the Upper East Side on a Friday night. Both times, her flip-flops fit perfectly with her look.
Practice makes perfect, after all, and Rosé has had lots of practice wearing slippers in settings beyond the beach. In 2023, she wore The Row’s City flip-flops while visiting an art gallery in New York City. That year, she alternated between The Row’s slippers and Maison Margiela’s Tabi thong sandals as her footwear of choice for flights, upgrading her stylish airport fashion with first-class comfort.

When she visited Paris last summer, Rosé switched to another pair of stylish shoes: The Row’s Beach flip-flops, marked by their shiny leather insoles and white rubber straps. This is the same pair that the APT singer has been wearing around Italy this month.
That Rosé chose to wear not just any flip-flops but those from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s fashion brand tells us that she has an eye for detail. The City ones, for example, feature a square-toe design and are crafted from leather. The Beach flip-flops, on the other hand (or foot?), come with a more classic round toe. They’re also made from both leather and rubber.
Rosé’s style instincts proved to be on point: this year, The Row’s Dune sandals topped The Lyst Index’s ranking of the hottest fashion products. Will our Number One Girl soon add fashion’s number one flip-flops to her wardrobe? Well, if the shoe fits…
