Dior’s Pre-Fall 2023 Ready To Wear show in Mumbai was one for the books. Presented against the backdrop of the historic Gateway of India, the show reflected artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s vision of spotlighting the global intersections of artisanship. Cultural nods to India were brimming in the collection, which featured intricacies courtesy of the Chanakya Atelier and School, a non-profit initiative directed by Chiuri’s long-time associate, Karishma Swali. Paying tribute to the commonalities of India’s rich heritage in craft and colours, and the French couturier’s ethos of savoir-faire, the connection between the two have been in the works since the maison’s early days.
