Fellow Ozians, it’s time to fly. Nearly a year after Wicked: Part One cast its spell on screens—and our hearts—the second chapter of the beloved Broadway adaptation is almost here. Titled Wicked: For Good, the sequel continues the story of Elphaba and Glinda—not just as witches of Oz, but as women forced to confront power, friendship, and the cost of becoming legends.

The next instalment promises a deeper, more emotional journey—complete with betrayals, heartbreak, and yes, even a wedding. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Granda reprise their iconic roles, with director Jon M Chu confirming the return of beloved classics alongside at least two original songs. And if the newly released trailer is anything to go by, Wicked: For Good is shaping up to be a truly spellbinding finalé to this cinematic journey through Oz.

The Plot

Picking up years after Elphaba’s sky-high escape at the end of the first film, the sequel sees our favourite witches now on opposite sides of a political storm. Elphaba has gone underground, demonised as The Wicked Witch of the West. Glinda, on the other hand, is crowned “Glinda the Good”, working alongside the Wizard and Madame Morrible to maintain order in a fractured Oz. Meanwhile, Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) trades his dance shoes for a military uniform as the commander of the Ozian army.

The plot draws heavily from Act Two of the original Broadway show, but with cinematic twists. A manipulative manhunt, a heartbreaking sisterly tragedy, and a wedding between Glinda and Fiyero that never happened on stage. Chu explains, “It’s life of death for all of them, so a wedding seemed appropriate.”

The ending promises a powerful conclusion to the friendship-turned-rivalry-turned-tragedy between Glinda and Elphaba. With Oz in revolt and the women forced to confront their truths, the final act is set to be as soul-stirring as it is visually spectacular. Spoiler alert: bring tissues, lots of them.
