This limited edition is the second release of The Macallan A Night On Earth series, which explores a new destination and its attendant rituals with each iteration, the first being dedicated to Scotland’s Hogmanay festivities, which are held as the world crosses from one year into the next.
Representing reunion, the process thereof, and special moments of togetherness and joy, A Night On Earth – The Journey speaks to reflecting on and reminiscing about the year that has passed and expressing optimism for the one to come, as well as bringing special gifts home to share with family and friends. To encapsulate these evocative moments, The Macallan collaborated with Chinese mixed-media artist Nini Sum to create a custom design that mirrors the long voyage that people who live and work far away undertake to return to their hometown in time for the festive period. The multi-layered packaging has each stratum standing for a different stage of the journey: on the outside, a vast landscape defined by mountain ranges, open skies and fireworks; the second layer, an urban tableau; the interior, dominated by yellow and orange tones, representing the warmth and cosiness of home.
Within the thought-provoking casing resides the A Night on Earth – The Journey, an elixir of sunrise gold that captures a diverse range of captivating flavours and notes, through the skill of The Macallan’s Whisky Mastery Team and the brand’s dedication to craft and excellence. The nose is reminiscent of toasted oak, citrus fruit, oat biscuits, vanilla, and creamy steamed rice and coconut milk pudding. To the taste, the whisky brings together lemon, lime, vanilla and toasted coconut. And the medium finish is sweet toasted oak with a third helping of vanilla. Bottled at 43 percent ABV, A Night on Earth – The Journey is a unique expression created through first-fill American bourbon barrels and sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks.
