In the heart of Causeway Bay stands the newly refurbished Lanson Place, a stately property at 133 Leighton Road. Surrounded by commercial towers, neon-lit eateries, and buzzing bars, it projects a quiet dignity against the urban backdrop.

Reopened on 1 March 2024 after an extensive transformation, the hotel bears the imprint of world-renowned French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon—celebrated for his work on the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, the Savoy in London, and the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. His vision was to shape an elegant sanctuary, where understated French aesthetics meet delicate craftsmanship.

The first impression upon arrival is striking: a wave of calm that softens the city’s intensity. In the light-filled lobby, floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate a soothing palette of soft tones. Adjoining the lobby is L’Orangerie, a salon-like space that doubles as an event venue, furnished with art, sculptural furniture, and warm lighting to create intimacy and ease.

The property offers 188 rooms and apartments—including six penthouses—tailored for both business and leisure stays. Each space is carefully designed with flexibility in mind: floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the city’s energy and the greenery beyond, while interiors balance functionality with comfort.

During my stay in the Studio Guest Room, I appreciated the distinct zones for work, leisure, and rest. Separate windows in both the living and sleeping areas brought in natural light throughout the day, enhancing the sense of ease and spaciousness.

Dining is centred on Salon Lanson, the restaurant and bar on the first floor. From a semi-buffet breakfast to evening cocktails, it offers an array of experiences. A highlight was sampling signature cocktails inspired by Hong Kong landmarks, each served with a postcard illustration. The “Leighton 133”—a citrus-forward vodka cocktail with cucumber, yuzu vinegar, cypress, and salt—paid tribute to the hotel’s address and the evolving stories of the neighbourhood.

For travellers to Hong Kong, Lanson Place offers more than a place to stay. It is a lesson in balance: a French-inspired retreat in the middle of the metropolis, where calm and energy coexist.
