October is upon us, and the streaming gods have blessed us with a packed slate of titles to dive into. Netflix’s lineup is more star-studded than ever, with a behind-the-scenes docuseries following Victoria Beckham, and a psychological thriller starring Keira Knightley. For those more in tune with Asian television, Viu brings us a heartwarming, underrated gem of a Korean movie, while Netflix unveils the tentpole of their Chinese-language content with a supernatural revenge thriller starring Shu Qi and Sinje Lee. Apple TV+’s The Lost Bus also promises a gripping and tense story led by Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. Read on for GRAZIA Singapore’s roundup of the most exciting new additions that will be premiering on Netflix, Apple TV+, and Viu this month.

The Resurrected

Silver screen icons Shu Qi and Sinje Lee are making their Netflix debut together in this chilling revenge thriller with a supernatural twist. Qi and Lee play mothers whose daughters were killed by the predator and criminal Chang Shih-kai, and who choose to witness his execution in an attempt to find closure—but their grief takes on a dangerous undercurrent when the women decide to resurrect the killer using an occult ritual, leading to a series of dark and gripping twists. The series is the tentpole of Netflix’s upcoming slate of Chinese-language content, and the darkly gripping trailer and visuals alone are enough to tell us why.

The Resurrected is premiering on Netflix on 9 October.

The Diplomat, Season 3

It’s a full-on West Wing reunion on the upcoming third season of The Diplomat. Alison Janney will reprise her role as the Vice President of the United States, while Bradley Whitford is guest-starring as her husband, and fans of The West Wing will know the duo’s chemistry is always electric. In case you’ve somehow resisted the pull of this gripping and unexpectedly funny political thriller, we’ll do our best to avoid spoilers while describing the stakes of the upcoming season—but rest assured, they’re higher than ever. Expect plenty of twists, turns, and lies, all with global repercussions, headlined by Keri Russell’s steely and earnest portrayal of American diplomat Kate Wyler.

Season 3 of The Diplomat is premiering on Netflix on 16 October.

Victoria Beckham

Be honest—how many of you thought the best parts of the Beckham docuseries were the Posh Spice cameos? If you live for Victoria Beckham’s trademark deadpan snark, you’re in luck. The British pop icon and designer is giving us an inside look at her life and career in a new Netflix documentary, diving into everything from her childhood and the Spice Girls days to the development of her fashion empire. “People thought I was that miserable cow that never smiled,” Beckham shares in a teaser. “But I do. Don’t be shocked.” Aside from flashbacks, the present-day portion of the series follows the lead-up to Beckham’s presentation at Paris Fashion Week, which is described as her most ambitious show yet. So what we want (what we really, really, want) is nothing more than to set aside a weekend to binge-watch the upcoming deep dive into the world of Posh.

Victoria Beckham is premiering on Netflix on 9 October.

It’s Okay!

This sharply written coming-of-age drama won the top prize in the young viewers’ category at the 74th Berlin Film Festival, but has largely flown under the radar since its wide theatrical release. Starring Lee Re and Jin Seo-yeon, the heartwarming story follows a high school-aged dancer as she navigates the aftermath of a family tragedy, finding unexpected refuge with her school’s steely art director. The film deftly balances sentimentality with humour and wit, using Lee and Jin’s clash of personalities to explore loss, love, and adolescence. Head over to Viu to find out for yourself why The Korea Herald described this charming watch as “one of the finest Korean commercial films of the year.”

It’s Okay! is now streaming on Viu.

The Woman In Cabin 10

The ‘rich people behaving badly’ subgenre of film just logged a star-studded new entry. In The Woman In Cabin 10, Keira Knightley plays a journalist on assignment aboard a luxury yacht who witnesses a passenger fall overboard late one night—only to be told firmly and unwaveringly that no such passenger ever boarded the ship. With Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, and Kaya Scodelario rounding out the cast of Knightley’s glamorous, powerful, and duplicitous fellow voyagers, the film promises to be gripping from beginning to end. Danger, gaslighting, witty dialogue, stunning backdrops—it’s got all the ingredients for psychological thriller success.

The Woman in Cabin 10 is premiering on Netflix on 10 October.

The Lost Bus

Until recently, Apple TV+ has been something of a dark horse in the streaming game. Apple Studios was steadily releasing some of the most compelling content on the streaming market for years to little fanfare, but the success of recent hits like Slow Horses and Severance has begun to earn them their flowers. This streak of success continues with their latest original film, The Lost Bus, a gripping and unflinching story by Jason Bourne director Paul Greengrass. Starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, the film brings to life the story of the deadliest wildfire in California history, with an unlikely hero in the form of a local school bus driver battling against the elements. Greengrass crafts an immersive narrative, with almost unrelenting tension throughout the film’s two-hour runtime. If you tune in, expect your pulse to be racing and your eyes to be glued to the screen.

The Lost Bus is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars

The Michelin Star process is steeped in as much prestige and fame as it is in secrecy. Awarding, receiving, and chasing the famed star are high-stakes, cutthroat endeavours—and Apple TV+’s newest series aims to pull back the curtain on the whole system. Hosted by Jesse Burgess and produced by Gordon Ramsay, Knife Edge takes viewers on an immersive journey into the world of fine dining, following chefs pushing relentlessly for Michelin stars as well as the elusive inspectors who award them. “Working for the Michelin guide is a bit like working for the CIA,” the trailer explains. We don’t know about you, but our curiosity is officially piqued.

Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars is premiering on Apple TV+ on 10 October.
