September brings the endings and beginnings that shape the rest of 2025. Our resident spirituality and holistic wellness advisor, Kelly Lightworker highlights notable astrological aspects for the month and draws a Tarot card for each zodiac sign.
First, let’s backtrack a bit. On 23 August, we welcomed a New Moon in the mutable Earth sign of Virgo, the sign that rules most of September. This New Moon also heralded the beginning of our second—and final—eclipse season of 2025.
Eclipses are, astrologically, a big deal. Historically, they’ve had a bad rep as evil omens. They do look ominous: when the Sun or Moon appears to be temporarily swallowed by shadow, it’s eerie. Still, eclipses open powerful portals for transformation. Endings that occur during an eclipse (or within three days before/after) tend to be final. Likewise, beginnings can become deeply significant, depending on where the eclipse lands in your birth chart. Make good choices during eclipse season, and you can get even the eclipses to work in your favour—yes, you can!
The dates to watch: a Lunar eclipse and Full Moon in Pisces on the 8th, and a Solar eclipse and New Moon in Virgo on the 22nd. The issues to consider: how to strike a wholesome balance between practicality and spirituality, between hanging on and letting go, between divine order and cosmic chaos. Watch where Virgo and Pisces land in your birth chart; those areas are where potential transformations could occur for you. Eclipses are also prime time for discovering previously hidden information, so keep your eyes and ears open for revelations.
The energies of this eclipse season, literally and figuratively, will overshadow the other transits; however, they’re still worth a mention. On the 1st, cosmic disciplinarian Saturn retrogrades out of Aries back into Pisces for one last hurrah until February 2026. Things could feel disorganised, so keep your focus laser-sharp. Mercury enters Virgo on the 2nd: get ready for servings of intense dialogue with some existential anxiety on the side. The Uranus retrograde begins on the 6th in witty Gemini—expect the unexpected, but take nothing personally.
The Sun-Mercury conjunction in Virgo on the 13th is a happy transit, with good prospects for whichever outcomes you’d like to achieve so long as you’re willing to speak up. On the 18th, Mercury joins energetic Mars in Libra: aim for fairness and harmony, and you will win. Act fast, though—Mars moves into moody Scorpio on the 22nd and things could get competitive then. The Sun moves into Libra on the 23rd, and a new season of balance and beauty begins…but wait! Stay alert on the 24th when the Sun forms a trine with Pluto, which is mired in a tense square with Mars. Political games could come to a head on this day, and useful intel about a certain power dynamic—or player—could be revealed.

ARIES: The Empress, reversed

Have you been kind to yourself lately, dear Aries? The reversed Empress is here for you this month—a gentle reminder to give yourself the nurture that you deserve. This card can also represent a person who struggles with issues of control: this could be someone who’s negligent, overbearing, and/or manipulative. Make sure it’s not you! The reversed Empress sometimes indicates a creative block: rest and self-care will help restore your mojo.
TAURUS: The Sun, reversed

Dear Taurus, events in recent months might have left you feeling a little tired—at this point, you could understandably be feeling isolated, or even pessimistic about the future. But fret not, Taurus! Sunny days will soon be here again. Even in the reversed position, The Sun is one of the best cards to get. A change would do you good: perhaps a short getaway could help you reconnect with your authentic self and rejuvenate positivity.
GEMINI: Six of Pentacles, reversed

Something could be stirring up a storm for you, dear Gemini. The reversed Six of Pentacles can refer to changes in a situation that might seem less than just or equitable to you. A promise might be broken; an arrangement might end. There could be a need to set boundaries and/or lay down some ground rules; a shift in your responsibilities or expectations might happen. Give more, or hold back? Seek fairness, and make wise choices.
CANCER: Temperance

Dear Cancer, this month is a good time to take a step back and reinstate your inner equilibrium as much as you can. Some of you might be facing a situation where patience will be key to resolution. There is wisdom in maintaining the status quo at this time; act only when necessary, and prioritise your peace and wellbeing above all. You could be pleasantly surprised at the surprisingly positive outcomes that arise from your self-restraint.
LEO: Two of Pentacles, reversed

This month could get busy, dear Leo, and it might feel as if your life were an endless juggling act. Some Leos who recently received promotions, or an expanded set of tasks and responsibilities, might be struggling to get used to the new grind—but hang in there and embrace the learning curve. An overseas trip, connection or partnership could experience challenges. Work hard, but remember work-life balance.
VIRGO: Four of Swords, reversed

Dear Virgo, if you have been dealing with a situation that caused some degree of restlessness or overthinking, then you’re in luck! The reversed Four of Swords indicates that stressful times could be coming to an end. The tide is turning for you—after the eclipse on the 22nd , in particular, things are likely to change for you. Follow your inner light, make good choices, and work with eclipse energies to bring all the good things into your life.
LIBRA: Eight of Cups, reversed

When you pray for blessings, dear Libra—love, wealth, success and all the good stuff—be prepared for the universe to give you these things in the form of opportunities. In other words, be prepared to work for them, and prepare yourself for a radical embrace of the transformation you’ll undergo so you can co-create a beautiful new cycle with the universe. September Libras, are you planning a birthday trip? A quick getaway might refresh you.
SCORPIO: Page of Wands, reversed

Watch out for petty people and their dramas this month, dear Scorpio. Some folks around you could be acting on a hidden agenda, and you don’t need to be part of that. Also, be mindful of miscommunications. Someone in your life might be struggling with a lack of drive, enthusiasm or zest for life. They would benefit from a good pep talk. And if this feels like you, then perhaps it’s time to review certain plans and move past the rut you’re in.
SAGITTARIUS: King of Wands

Dear Sagi, this month could test your mettle, but you can win this! The King of Wands represents a triumph over obstacles and challenges with your native passion, creativity and grit. The important thing is to achieve mastery over yourself—both strengths and weaknesses—and to act from a place of power. No one else is a visionary quite like you. A helpful mentor and/or a charismatic leader could support you at this time.
CAPRICORN: Justice

The universal principles of karma will play a prominent role for you this month, dear Capricorn. Whatever you put into a cause or project, trust that you’ll receive fair reward. Some of you might be embarking on major ventures, and this card is your reminder to lawyer up. Legal matters are likely to produce positive outcomes, and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your objectives. Be fair to others, and blessings will return to you.
AQUARIUS: Ten of Swords

Dear Aquarius, get yourself to a day spa—stat! The Ten of Swords represents extreme mental exertion: thanks to the demands of work, family, and all your other responsibilities, your body and mind are crying out for sweet relief. While it might not be possible for you to get away completely from everything that’s causing the stress, do carve out time for the self-care that you need to regain your health, wellness, and mental acuity.
PISCES: Eight of Wands, reversed

Dear Pisces, this month could bring some hiccups along your journey: expect obstacles in a work project, travel delays, or miscommunications etc. However, all is not lost—a dose of patience and good humour will help with the situation, and get you back on track in no time. Some Pisces who might have been spending more in recent months might find that finances are getting tight. A good budget will help with this issue.
