It’s now July, and the heat is on: four retrogrades begin this month, and one outer planet changes sign! Our resident spirituality and holistic wellness advisor, Kelly Lightworker, highlights notable astrological aspects for the month and draws a Tarot card for each zodiac sign.
Tough-shelled, tender-hearted Cancer is the zodiac sign that dominates July; expect the general vibes to be deep in our feels, for better or worse. Neptune, planetary ruler of creativity and imagination, starts its retrograde in Aries on 5 July: this retrograde encourages us to put aside our rose-tinted glasses in favour of reality checks. On 7 July, Uranus switches signs from Taurus to Gemini! Uranus, planetary ruler of innovation, has plodded along awkwardly in stoic Taurus since 2018. In contrast, zany Uranus and zippy Gemini make a far more compatible—and potentially combustible—match. Uranus stays in Gemini till 2033: till then, we can look forward to significant developments in the ways we think, communicate, and engage in intellectual discovery.
On the Full Moon in Capricorn on 11 July, celebrate your achievements and release old patterns that hold you back from fulfilling your potential. On 13 July, cosmic disciplinarian Saturn begins its retrograde in Aries: Saturn governs karma, and its retrograde helps us review how we take responsibility for ourselves and others. This is followed by a Mercury retrograde beginning in Leo on 18 July: there might be possible delays and glitches in travel, tech, and communications. Keep your cool, darlings, and be sure to have backups for everything.
We roar into Leo season on 22 July. Following the Sun, the New Moon also enters Leo on 25 July and almost immediately forms an opposition with intense Pluto in Aquarius. Emotional turbulence could lead to dramatic flare-ups on this day, but mindfulness—and the truth—will set you free. Finally, we end July with Chiron, the asteroid known as the ‘wounded healer’, beginning its retrograde in Aries on 30 July. This transit unlocks our hidden potential to heal past hurts and to turn pain into power.
