Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree. In the blink of an eye, we’re already in the last month of the year. As you take this festive period to take stock of what you’ve achieved in 2024, take this time to also slow down and spend some cosy weekends in with your loved ones. After all, there is no better time to do that than at the end of the year. Snuggle up with your family and friends, and just relax.
Ahead, we highlight some of the most binge-worthy titles to keep an eye out for this December. From the highly-anticipated second season of the Netflix original Squid Game, to new K-dramas that will captivate you from the first episode, these are the shows that you simply shouldn’t miss.
Squid Game: Season 2
The blockbuster series Squid Game is finally back with its second season. The 2021 Netflix original thriller show took the world by storm with its candy-coloured setting, coupled with its hauntingly gripping Korean childhood games. Now, in the second season, Lee Jung-jae, the protagonist who played Seong Gi-hun, is back to reprise his role, alongside Wi Ha-joon, who played the leader behind the cruel games. Choi Seung-hyun (aka TOP from Big Bang), as well as Park Gyu-young of Sweet Home fame will be joining the cast.
The second season of Squid Game will be available on Netflix starting 26 December.
Light Shop
Starring Ju Ji-hoon and Park Bo-young, Light Shop is an upcoming Disney+ original Korean series that you can’t miss this December. The premise of the show is centred around the titular light shop, a mysterious store that acts as a bridge between the living and the dead, located at the end of a dark alleyway. The show’s main characters each struggle with a horrible experience from their past, which leads them into the gleaming light shop.
Stream Light Shop on Disney+ from 4 December.
Scream VI
The 2023 murder thriller Scream VI is coming to Netflix soon. With Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Courtney Cox reprising their roles from the 2022 Scream, the 2023 film sees the cast moving to New York City for a fresh start. This December, you can cosy up with your beau and some popcorn, and enjoy the slasher film from the safety of your couch.
Scream VI is available for streaming on Netflix starting 23 December.
Jungkook: I Am Still
For K-pop fans (or specifically Armys), this December, you can see Jungkook on the big screen. The youngest member of global sensations BTS is releasing a heartfelt documentary that showcases his eight-month journey, depicting the development of his solo album Golden, which was released last November. Now, you can get a peek behind the curtains, taking a deep dive into the singer-songwriter’s creative process and growth.
You can stream Jungkook: I Am Still on Disney+ from 3 December.
Dream Productions
A spin-off of the animated film Inside Out, Dream Productions is an upcoming miniseries from Disney+. For those unfamiliar, Inside Out captured the hearts of the young and young at heart with the personifications of main character Riley’s emotions. Joy, Sadness and their crew of emotions manage Riley’s outward emotions, but Dream Productions looks at the little beings controlling Riley’s nightly dreams (and nightmares).
Dream Productions will premiere on Disney+ starting 11 December.
