Series that immerse us in the glamorous yet ruthless world of fashion have been all the rage lately. In 2024, we dived deep into the lives of fashion icons with shows like The New Look on Apple TV+ about Christian Dior, a series on Disney+ about Cristóbal Balenciaga, and of course, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld on Disney+. This “made in France” mini-series debuted on June 7, captivating audiences and leaving us with one burning question: will there be a second season?

Created by Isaure Pisani-Ferry, Jennifer Have, and Raphaëlle Bacqué (based on her book), Becoming Karl Lagerfeld tells the gripping tale of the German designer’s rise in Paris during the 1970s. It covers ego struggles and complex relationships, including his platonic love story with Jacques de Bascher. Daniel Brühl, a German-Spanish actor, portrays Karl Lagerfeld impeccably. But it’s the Quebecer, Théodore Pellerin, who steals the show with his performance as Jacques de Bascher. With just six episodes, the series is a quick watch, ending on a suspenseful cliffhanger. We have mixed feelings about that!

Is Season 2 On The Horizon?

The series concludes in 1983, just as Karl receives a golden offer from the House of Chanel to become its new artistic director. He grins mysteriously, hinting at the remarkable journey ahead. But is that all? While we know the historical events that follow, the visual storytelling leaves us wanting more.

Jérôme Salle, director of the first three episodes, admitted in an interview with Première that there’s potential for a second season. He explained, “Everything that happened to Karl in the 1970s provided material to fill a single season. There is clearly the possibility of a season 2.” The next chapter could focus on the arrival of AIDS and its impact on Jacques, along with Karl’s early days at Chanel.

With all this content to explore, we can certainly hope Disney+ gives us more of Becoming Karl Lagerfeld. Here’s to crossing our fingers for an extended adventure.
