Kate Middleton has been a beacon of grace and elegance since officially joining the British monarchy upon her marriage to Prince William in 2011. Fusing traditionalism with modern style, the Princess of Wales has taken on her duties with aplomb, becoming one of the most hard-working and reliable members, especially during her recent health struggles.
But in a resurfaced interview from her days as a commoner, Middleton once called the idea of joining the royal family a “daunting prospect”. Indeed, the then 28-year-old university graduate gave an über-candid answer when asked how she felt about her new responsibilities during the press announcement of their engagement.
In the clip, which was filmed in November 2010, Middleton responded with the refreshing honesty approach to the media that has since become her signature. “It’s quite a daunting prospect but hopefully I’ll take it in my stride,” Middleton replied. “William’s a great teacher so hopefully he’ll be able to help me along the way, and I really look forward to spending my time with William,” she added. Her husband jumped in to add that “she’s very good at flattery,” causing Middleton to erupt into a smile.
The former Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wed during a ceremony at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. The bride, who did her own makeup for the occasion, wore a stunning ivory and lace gown featuring delicate floral embroidery and a nine-foot train. The wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
Upon King Charles III’s ascent to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, she once again called on the London-based atelier to create a gown for the coronation. As per the line of succession, Middleton will become the next Queen of England following her father-in-law’s passing. We wonder what little Catherine would think of that possibility!
