Gracie Abrams is not only dominating charts with her sophomore studio album, The Story of Us, but she also may have just snapped up one of Hollywood’s (and Ireland’s!) most eligible bachelors: Paul Mescal.
On Sunday, June 30, the singer and the actor were spotted at BRAT restaurant in London, where eyewitnesses took some sneaky photos of the two getting close across the table. Photos published by TMZ (see here) show them laughing over drinks and sharing plates, and at one point, it even looks like Mescal reaches over to caress Abrams’ face.
Despite rumours of the Normal People star seeing Australian actress Sophie Wilde, and physically running away from bad dates, Mescal, 28, hasn’t been confirmed to be dating anyone since his engagement to Phoebe Bridgers fell through.
Abrams, 24, has also not been connected to anyone since she split with musician Blake Slatkin in 2022 after five years together.
Who knows, maybe even Connell himself is the subject of Abrams’ new single “Risk”, which tells the story of a consuming crush Abrams has on someone she hasn’t even met. At the start of the song, she sings: “Know you had a girl, but it didn’t work out / Know you bought a house, but you had to move out.”
The line could easily reference Mescal’s relationship with Bridgers, with whom he allegedly purchased a farmhouse in West Cork, Ireland before they broke up.

October 2023: DeuxMoi Reports The Pair Are “Hanging Out”
This prospect love story takes us back to October 2023. At the time anonymous gossipmonger DeuxMoi had published a tip shared by an “exclusive source” claiming that the duo had begun “hanging out”. This was amid reports Mescal had joined the exclusive dating app Raya, with reports that he was taking girls on dates before literally running away from them circulating soon after.
May 2024: Paul Mescal Reportedly “Broke Gracie’s Heart”
Soon after rumours that Mescal was dating Australian actor Sophie Wilde began to do the rounds, DeuxMoi released another unconfirmed tidbit alleging that the Gladiator 2 star had “broke Gracie’s heart”. “This was around the time he was active on Raya and going on lots of dates, so my guess is he wasn’t ready to commit, and she fell hard,” they wrote. But all’s fair in love and war, with Abrams and Mescal spotted together in London a month later.
June 2024: Paul Mescal & Gracie Abrams Spotted Dining At London’s “Brat” Restaurant
On June 30, the first confirmed sighting of the pair emerged. In pictures published by TMZ (see here), Abrams and Mescal were seen in the public dining room at a rustic Spanish restaurant called “BRAT” in Shoreditch. As already mentioned, they were seen to exhibit some public displays of affection and ordered small plates to share. (Editor’s Note: Regardless if this was a platonic or romantic outing, Abrams’ ruffled sheer pink top is the perfect casual date look!)
Only a week before the outing Abrams had released a single called “Normal Things”, which was reportedly also written about Mescal and his breakout role in Normal People. There could be references to the television adaption of Sally Rooney’s best-selling book, with the song opening with: “It’s a normal thing to fall in love with movie stars”.
July 2024: Paul Mescal & Gracie Abrams Both Shop In Mayfair
Coincidentally narrowly avoiding one another, Abrams and Mescal were seen shopping in Mayfair less than 20 minutes apart. On July 22, Mescal was seen exiting Gucci’s boutique on Bond Street with Abrams papped not too far from the store soon after. Abrams is reported to be staying at Marylebone’s celebrity-approved Chiltern Firehouse during her time in the UK. Mescal was seen leaving the accompanying downstairs restaurant in the early hours of the morning with fellow actor Idris Elba.
August 2024: Paul Mescal & Gracie Abrams Were Pictured Holding Hands In London
You know she loves a London boy. Well, Irish in the case of the Normal People star, but the sentiment remains the same after the first official proof of their relationship came during a romantic stroll in the English capital. Indeed, Mescal and Abrams were pictured in Central London holding hands with anonymous gossipmonger DeuxMoi breaking the story. Abrams was seen wearing black track pants, a white tank top and a silver Gimaguas bag in the pictures you can see here.
Abrams will soon play a few shows in Canada opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour before returning to the UK in early 2025. The secret of us is not so secret after all…
