The latest addition to the lineup of JYP Entertainment’s talent pool is global girl group, VCHA.
They also happen to be the first American K-pop group to make their debut.
Comprising Lexi, KG, Camila, Savanna, Kaylee, and Kendall, VCHA was formed through the K-pop survival program A2K (America 2 Korea) spearheaded by Park Jin-young.
Behind this upcoming global girl group are two entertainment giants: JYP Entertainment and Republic Records. This collaboration is a first in the industry with an American group training under the K-pop system.
The cut-throat training regime is notoriously known for only selecting the cream of the crop to debut. The rest will then be eliminated.
The group’s name, VCHA, has a pretty direct and simple meaning to it. Phonetically, VCHA sounds like like bit-cheo, a Korean word which means to illuminate, and give light to fans and the world.
And the brains behind their group name is none other than Park himself. He revealed the group’s name in the final episode of the 22-part reality series.
To celebrate the confirmation of its team lineup, The group dropped their pre-debut single SeVit (New Light) (2023) on 22 Sep (1PM KST).
They also released the music video of Y.O.Universe (2023), the title number. The girl’s official debut date is unconfirmed and unannounced as of time of writing.
VCHA will be next in the lineage of girl groups JYP has successfully debuted. This includes some of the biggest success stories in K-pop, like Wonder Girls, Miss A, TWICE and ITZY.
