It’s true, we’ve entered the era of Southeast Asian star power. Case in point? Vietnamese singer and actress Chi Pu. The Hanoi-native, who first rose to fame in 2013 as an actress in dramas Waterdrop and Happy Dream, is one of Vietnam’s biggest rising stars—an all-rounded entertainer adored for her bubbly personality, versatile acting chops and killer style.
In 2017, Chi Pu officially broke into the world of music, and has since released a number of successful records, including her 2024 EP Flexible. She now boasts a following of close to 6 million on Instagram, where she shares candid snaps from both her personal and professional life. And as if that wasn’t impressive enough, the 31-year-old has been forging close bonds with the luxury world, regularly collaborating with French maison Gucci.
Here, we speak to the global star about her journey in the entertainment scene, what inspires her, and the secrets behind her bold sense of style.
GRAZIA Singapore (GS): You’ve had an incredible journey from acting to music. What has been the most exciting part of this evolution for you?
Chi Pu (CP): The most exciting part has been the ability to constantly challenge myself. Acting and music are both forms of storytelling, but music allows me to express my emotions in a more personal way. Every song, every performance is a chance to connect with my audience on a deeper level.
GS: Your first English-language EP, Flexible, was a big step. What inspired you to take this direction?
CP: I’ve always wanted to push my boundaries and explore new opportunities. Flexible was my way of stepping into a global space while staying true to who I am as an artist. Music is universal, and I wanted to share my voice with a wider audience.
GS: Can you share any behind-the-scenes moments from creating Flexible?
CP: The whole process was a mix of excitement and nerves! Recording in English pushed me to improve my pronunciation and delivery. There were plenty of fun moments in the studio—especially when we experimented with different sounds and ideas. I also worked with an amazing team who helped bring my vision to life.

GS: How do you handle criticism and push forward with your musical ambitions?
CP: Criticism is part of the journey, and I’ve learned to take it as motivation. Not everyone will connect with my music, but as long as I’m growing and staying true to myself, that’s what matters. I remind myself why I started and keep pushing forward.
Are there any dream collaborations you’re hoping for in the near future?
CP: I’ve been deeply inspired by artists like Britney Spears, Beyoncé, and Rihanna since I was a kid. I used to watch all their performances, trying to sing and dance like them. They shaped so much of my passion for music and performing. So if I ever got the chance to collaborate with them one day, I think I’d absolutely lose my mind—it would be a dream come true!
GS: Your performance in Mười: The Curse Returns was widely praised. What drew you to that role?
CP: I was drawn to the psychological depth of the character. She wasn’t just a typical horror film protagonist—she had layers, emotions, and a story to tell. I love roles that challenge me to explore different sides of myself as an actress.
GS: If you could play any role in the world, what would it be and why?
CP: I’d love to play a strong, complex female lead—maybe in an action-thriller or a deep, emotional drama. Something that really pushes my limits as an actress.
GS: You’ve had success both in Vietnam and internationally. Are you looking to expand further into global projects?
CP: Yes! I want to keep growing as an artist, whether that’s through music, acting, or other creative projects. Expanding internationally is definitely a goal, and I’m working towards it step by step.
GS: Your style is always evolving. How would you describe your current fashion aesthetic?
CP: Right now, I’m loving a mix of elegance and boldness—something that’s effortless but still makes a statement.
GS: Who are your biggest style inspirations?
CP: I’ve always admired Zendaya, and Jennie from BLACKPINK for their unique sense of style. Each of them brings something different—whether it’s confidence, elegance, or boldness. I also love the fashion of Audrey Hepburn for her timeless elegance and Bella Hadid for her edgy, modern take on style.

GS: If you could only wear one designer for the rest of your life, who would it be?
CP: It would be Gucci. I love how the brand blends sophistication with bold, creative expression. Their designs are timeless yet always evolving, which perfectly matches my personal style.
GS: What are your must-have beauty products for glowing skin?
CP: A good hydrating serum and masks to keep my skin plump and moisturised, a tone-up sunscreen for protection and a natural glow, and a dewy foundation for that fresh, radiant finish. Skincare is everything!
GS: Do you have any personal beauty rituals or skincare secrets you swear by?
CP: My beauty rituals are pretty simple but essential—I always drink lots of water, double cleanse, and never go to bed with makeup on. A good night’s sleep is also a must for healthy skin. Recently, I’ve been incorporating guasha into my routine to help with circulation and sculpting. It’s such a great way to de-puff and relax!
GS: What does a typical day in your life look like when you’re not working?
CP: When I’m not working, I love having a slow, peaceful day at home. I’ll start with a cup of hot tea, put on some jazz music, and just enjoy the calm atmosphere. I also like spending time in the kitchen, making some food for myself. It’s my way of unwinding and appreciating the little moments of silence and peace.
GS: How do you stay motivated and inspired in such a competitive industry?
CP: I focus on my passion and always remind myself why I do what I do. Surrounding myself with positive, hardworking people also keeps me inspired. I don’t see other artists as competitors but as sources of inspiration—I believe we can all learn from each other and grow together. Supporting and uplifting one another makes the industry stronger and more exciting.
GS: What’s one thing fans would be surprised to learn about you?
CP: People might be surprised to know that I have a very introverted side. On stage or in front of the camera, I’m full of energy and love performing, but offstage, I really enjoy my quiet moments—whether it’s spending time alone, reflecting, or just unwinding in a peaceful space.
GS: How do you balance your career, personal life, and self-care?
CP: It’s all about prioritising. I make sure to set aside time for myself and the people I care about, no matter how busy things get.

GS: What can fans look forward to from you in 2025? Any exciting projects in the works?
CP: Yes! There are definitely new music projects, performances, and maybe even a new acting role on the way. I can’t wait to share more soon!
GS: If you could send a message to your fans who have supported you all these years, what would it be?
CP: To my amazing fans, Sunny and Zhifubao, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your love and support mean everything to me, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. No matter where this journey takes me, knowing that you’re always by my side gives me so much strength and motivation. I’ll keep working hard to make you proud—love you all!
