Based on a popular web novel, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy revolves around a dystopian fantasy novel coming to life. Add on the movie’s all-star cast, comprising Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin and Jisoo, and the movie guarantees an immersive cinematic experience.
Ahead of the film’s release, the two leads, along with director Kim Byung-woo, held a press conference at Marina Bay Sands to promote the action fantasy film.
Kicking off the session with a quirky snippet, Kim said, “I missed my flight yesterday and almost couldn’t make it today. So, the fact that I’m able to be here and be a part of the media session, it feels great.”
However, Kim is more than his humour, having directed many hit films like The Terror Live and Take Point.
Despite the differential nature of Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy, Kim still went ahead to take on this adaptation, as he was confident he could make the film as “exciting as the novel was”.
Kim also found the novel’s immersion quite similar to his previous works. He shared, “I realised this movie can make the audience be a part of the story.”
A Thought-Provoking Work

Aside from the film’s immersion, it also proves itself as a thought-provoking work, especially for the actors.
In the web novel, Kim Deok-ja (played by Ahn) played the role of the audience, or the Average Joe. The character’s normality and commonness had Ahn stumped.
“How do I depict the normality and commonness of Kim Deok-ja? The definition of what is normal and general is very vague”, he said.
On the other hand, his co-lead Lee also shared a thought-provoking realisation from the film. He said: “The people are really what you need to take care of the most, especially with the world’s increasing individuality and pace of change”.
“The story is basically about how people receive courage, hope and go through adversity together. I realised and felt that this is a story that the world needs the most right now”, he adds. Ahn also said that the film will become “a monumental project in Korean movie history” after having read the script.
Ahn’s Silver Screen Debut

This film also marks Ahn’s first time starring in a movie. Nevertheless, he was at ease throughout the filming process of the film.
“For me, it was easy to act throughout the process because of how Kim Deok-ja admires, idolises and looks up to Yoo Joong-hyuk. And that’s exactly how I felt about Lee Min-ho” (who plays Yoo Joong-hyuk).
