It’s awards season! We are just a few days into 2025, and we already have a major awards show on our hands. Held in Beverly Hills in California, the 82nd Golden Globes took place at 9 am this morning (Singapore time). The Golden Globes this year was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, the first ever solo female host in the award show’s history and was attended by countless A-listers in Hollywood, including Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Michelle Yeoh, as well as Shōgun actress Anna Sawai and Emilia Pérez‘s Selena Gomez. Korean actor Lee Jung-jae of Squid Game fame was also in attendance at the awards show.
Below, we run through some of the top highlights from the awards presentation. Plus, the full list of winners (and nominations) from the Golden Globes. Spoiler: it’s a great year for Shōgun, The Bear and Emilia Pérez.
Shōgun Takes The Cake
FX drama Shōgun swept the 82nd Golden Globes, taking home four TV wins, including Best Television Series—Drama and Best Female Actor In A Television Series—Drama for Japanese actress Sawai. The hit historical drama, based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell, has taken the world by storm since its release last February. At the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, the show took home 18 wins, and now, continues its award-winning streak.
A Wicked Reunion
Elphaba and Glinda reunite once more at the 82nd Golden Globes. The twin flames who starred in the 2024 blockbuster film together held space—IYKYK—at the awards ceremony after Wicked snagged just one award: the Cinematic And Box Office Achievement. Though Erivo and Grande were both nominated for their respective leading and supporting roles, neither actress took home any personal wins, in what fans dubbing one of the biggest snubs at this year’s Golden Globes.
Emilia Pérez Snags Four Wins
Emilia Pérez, the Spanish-language crime comedy film released last year, took home four awards at the Golden Globes. But most significant of all, it was the winner of the Best Film—Musical Or Comedy category. Zoe Saldaña also took home the prize for Best Female Actor In A Supporting Role In A Film, beating out recently engaged Gomez, who was also nominated for the award.
