At GRAZIA Singapore HQ, the old excites us as much as the new and in this weekly column, we ask our fellow friends, industry-goers and beauty aficionados about the last thing they loved be it trends, products, or even the image they looked at when it came to inspiring themselves.
Here, makeup artist Kimberly Chee (@kimxbby__) shares some of her lasts.
The last beauty product I finished was Chanel Beauty’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Longwear Eyeliner And Kohl Pen in Bois Noir 58 (Editor’s Note: it’s a limited edition but there are similar shades online!).
It’s a bulletproof eyeliner I’ve been loving for the past two years as it glides on buttery-smooth and stays on all day. Bois Noir 58 is a pearlescent dark brown which gives a soft, alluring intensity to the eyes.
The last viral makeup/skincare trend I tried was the “overlip”. It’s about softly blurred and overdrawn lips which is a trend in Korea and China and although it takes a lot more effort than your regular lip routine (it requires the blending of about three to four different products compared to slapping on just a lipstick), it gives the lips so much depth and volume. It’s worth all that extra trouble and all the hype.
The last beauty product I bought was JungSaemMool’s Artist Concealer Palette ($46.50). It’s one of the best concealers as its shades are suited for Asian skin with full coverage that lasts all day. And, it has a moisturising finish which ensures it does not dry or crack.
The last image I looked at for beauty inspiration was Korean makeup as I learnt makeup from Korea. I tend to look at pictures from the country’s editorial magazines, fashion brands and what the idols wear a lot as inspiration for my work.
The last beauty product I bought again was JungSaemMool Beauty’s Artist Concealer Palette because I finished it very quickly since I use it all the time.
The last beauty indulgence I treated myself to was some nice candles from Diptyque and incense from Kuumba to calm down and relax when I’m not working and just winding down at home. I’ve recently been obsessed with scents.
The last beauty product I made a holy grail was the Chanel Beauty Stylo Sourcils Waterproof ($68) which is the best eyebrow pencil hands down. I always use waterproof and long-lasting products on my clients and using this for the first time, it immediately replaced my previous “cult-favourite” brow pencil that I’ve been using for seven years.
It glides on effortlessly with buildable colour so anything from soft powdery brows to intense defined ones can be achieved with this one product alone. It also lasts all day, even if you wear it in water.
The last beauty product I gifted someone was Chanel Beauty’s Rouge Allure Ink ($67) that’s my favourite matte lip product as it doesn’t dry or crack. Instead, it feels soft and comfortable all day like you’re wearing a little cloud on the lips.
The last beauty product that truly impressed me was Givenchy Beauty’s Prisme Libre Loose Powder in N3 Voile Rose ($102). The powder sets makeup beautifully without drying the skin out, and your face will feel remain velvety matte and fresh all day. Its rosy undertones also keep the foundation from oxidising.
The last makeup/skincare trick I taught someone was to double highlight and soft contour at the same time to my celebrity clients as it gives the illusion of a naturally highlighted, slim elf-like nose. Think of a Korean celebrity nose without surgery needed.
